I'm really new to this equipment and I was watching a video by Les on setting up a Two Box effect.

I'm working the device for my church and I'd love to find a way to transition a video we have playing on a HDMI 1 feed over a Live Video we have going. I'm not sure if it's even possible with this device and I'm getting really lost in the manual.

Basically we have a live video that we are recording and I'd like to superimpose in about 25% of the top corner of the screen and then transition to just the live video.

Right now we are just transitioning form one feed to the other and I would love to give it a Picture in Picture feel.

Right now I'm doing everything form the console itself but I know there is software for it and that may be what I have to use to set this up if it's even possible.

Sorry for he long winded post.

    Thanks in advanced,

    Todd..

So you want to Bring in the Camera Shot as a "Box" then have it "Move/Scale Up" Full Screen? Or you only want to see Part of the Corner or the Camera then do a Dissolve ?

Actually I want the Camera Shot as the main source then a Video that we have playing (an intro video) shrunk to 25% in the upper right hand corner then dissolve that video away.

Kind of like when you watch TV and a show is ending and they roll the credits in a small window while they are showing another video source in the background.

I know I feel I'm trying too much with my very limited knowledge and experience.

Oh -- Okay. Well you would be best to build that as a Custom Control that will Recall a Memory that sets up the Camera on Key 1 of a MiniME (since you need to do a DVE Squeeze Back) as a DVE Key Full Screen with the Video source being on the BKGD since it would be covered up by the Key 1. Then you will make a second Memory (using the Effects Dissolve Function) that will have the DVE squeezed back and positioned where you like -- You can also have the memory setup the Next Transition Area of the MiniME such that only Key 1 will be selected. This way you can use the Fader Handle if you like or just use the Auto Trans Function. You would also be able to set the Memory up to have the Transition Rate that you need.

When storing the 2 Memories I would use the Memory Attributes Functions for the Key Bus and BKGD Buses set to Not Recall. That way you will be able to build the Custom Control so that it calls up the effect but does not run it -- giving you time to change the source in the Keyer (selecting the Camera you would like to be on when you start the Push) and which Video Player input the background video will come from. Now Maybe these will always be the same and thus you could negate the need for the Attribute but I like to do it that way.

If you only possibly change it once in a while then what I would normally do is still keep the Attribute set so it does not recall the source, but in the Custom Control at the beginning I would add selecting those two "default" sources after the memory recall but before the Hold (don't worry I will put an "order" of events after the explanation). That way the first memory will recall on the MiniME (that is not on air) pause for a couple of frames then assign those default Sources to the MiniME Key and BKGD Buses. In addition to that I would also before the Hold add in selecting the MiniME as the PST Source on the ME (that way I see it in Preview and I am ready to move to the Effect).

In addition to selecting the MiniME on the PST bus I would also setup my Next Transition area of the MiniME so that I am ready to transition to it Clean (unless you had other Graphics or Keyer Layers that you wanted to remain on Top from the ME) by using the BKGD Double Press feature (this enable Trans Clean which would automatically include any Keyer that would be active on the ME so that you would always transition Clean to just the source on PST -- Note to test if this feature is enabled just cut a couple of keys on -- then double press the BKGD button in the Next Transition area and if it lights up with the two active keyers then also lighting up then you have it enabled. If not go into the Personality Menu - Trans Area Menu and change Background Double Press from Ignore to Enabled.)

At this point the Custom Control would then be in a Hold -- with the ME next transition Area setup so that you will take all of the active keyers off air and go clean to the MiniME setup on the PST Bus. You could after the Hold have it do the Transition for you but that limits your creative choices at this point -- ie are you on the same Camera or a different Camera where a Cut would work better? Are you on a different shot or source where you would feel a Dissolve to the Camera is going to work better?? since you could have options here I would opt to not put the function of per forming the transition into the Custom Control but rather require that the user perform this part of the step manually. Unless you want it to be 100% done the same every time in which case pick your transition type here -- Cut / Auto and type -- ie Wipe, Dissolve or DVE and go for it :)

Now that we have transitioned the MiniME to Air we would be in a Hold Again (or still in the previous Hold if your going with the manual Transition requirement) the next step will be to recall that Second Memory on the MiniME so that the DVE performs it's squeeze back. This memory will have been stored with the DVE in the final location that you wanted it, with the Memory Attributes set for the MiniME to make sure the Key Parameters recalled but not the Key Bus, Also the BKGD Bus also set to Not Recall so it would not have changed the source that you selected on it. The Next Transition Area of the MiniME would also have been setup to be Key 1 selected. I would have also stored the memory with Effects Dissolve enabled and the rate set to that of the duration that you would like the DVE to take to get from Full Screen to the Squeeze back location.

We will have another Hold at this point so that you can add the auto trans of the MiniME to the End of the Custom Control and be able to Resume the effect when your ready for the DVE to Dissolve of the screen.

    Preparation:

2 Memories are to be made on MiniME (so when you store the memory only include MiniME 1 or MiniME 2 which ever one you have decided to use) Lets use 70 and 71 for the sake of this example.

If you have not reviewed the video on Memories and Attributes please review it. I would suggest watching it again and paying attention to the part about how to define the Recall side of Attributes and also setting up the RState accordingly so that it does not kick the Recall Settings into an override mode. Meaning you really want to make sure your recall side is Orange so that the memories can define what each component does.

Memory 70 -- MiniME has the Camera on the Key 1 in DVE Mode Active (on air) and set to full screen. The Attributes would have the Key 1 Bus an the BKGD bus set to not recall (button is Grey meaning don't recall).

Memory 71 -- MiniME has the Camera on Key 1 in DVE Mode Active and set to the position of the location Squeezed back where you want it to be. The Next transition would be setup so only Key 1 is selected and Dissolve selected as well. Set the ME Rate to be the duration the the Camera will dissolve off at. The Attributes would be the same as in Memory 70 only we are going to make sure that on the general tab we set the Mode to Effects Dissolve and set effects dissolve duration to how long we want it to take to go from full to squeezed back.

Custom Control should look like the following

Recall Memory 70 on MiniME 1 only (don't want to change anything else)
Pause 2 Frames (this will allow the memory to do it's thing before we change bus sources)
MiniME Keybus XPT set to the Camera normally used
MiniME BKGD XPT set to the Video source normally used
ME PST Bus XPT set to MiniME
Next trans Clean (Background Double press)
Transition to use ie Dissolve button press (even if it is on Dissolve this will make sure to always put it to dissolve)

**Note: At this point your setup to go from live state into the first stage of the effect. If you need to change the sources for the Keyer and the BKGD to something else this is where you would do that. Manually select the MiniME on the the Panel -- pick your two sources and then switch back to the ME. Or do the selections in the DashBoard UI using the Buses tab)**

    HOLD
Option (perform the Auto Transition or Cut Function on the ME which would make it so that is fixed in how it transitions to the first stage of the effect)

HOLD (Note i you don't use the Optional Transition before this hold then you also don't need this Hold)
    Recall Memory 71

    HOLD
MiniME AutoTrans (this will dissolve the squeezed back key off)
