Hi, all. Happy New Year! :D

... Curious, my station is soon going to make rolling video out of our Vision Switcher mandatory. The "Roll Clip" button, once activated, works as intended but after the first Clip in the desired channel plays, instead of Cuing to the next video, it just cuts to Black. After that, there is no way to Cue the next Clip.

The videos are playing out of a Command Interface, and when a Director currently rolls video via an X-Keys, the Clips play, and then Cue to the next source automatically. Short of having an X-Keys available for the TDs (Switcher Ops.) to use, is there anything in the Switcher itself we can modify so after a Clip finishes playing, it automatically Cues to the next source?

... More to the point, is there a way to Cue video via the Switcher at all?

We're all new to this, and I'm guessing this is really more a Command issue than Vision one, but I thought I'd throw this out here and see if anyone has some feedback.

Thanks for any/all help, folks. Take care!

    Sincerely,
    ~Sean

You are correct that this is an issue with the way in which Command is controlling the playlist. Your not going to be able to send the Roll Command directly to the server and then have the playlist continue.

What you might consider doing is using the "Roll GPO" function where your going to use a GPO trigger to have the Command system roll the clip. Now you will end up having to attach the same GPO to all of the channels that trigger if it only works with 1 GPO for advancing the Command. Or Multiple GPO if the system supports individual GPI per channel.

So instead of talking to the Server Directly your going to be sending trigger to command.

As for cueing clips -- Yes using the VDCP protocol you can cue clips but this is done by the Clip ID. So great for Opens and Bumpers that you use all of the time. Also that is the same way you cue clips when using Servers for Video Transitions.

    Thanks for the reply, Les.

Please forgive my ignorance, but the majority of what you stated above I don't understand. lol

Can you define what a GPO is? A GPO Trigger? I've heard of GPI, but to my knowledge, our Switcher does none of that... or at least, never has before.

Also, what is the VDCP protocol? I think I understand how it's intended to work, but I don't know what that stands for and/or how to utilize that via the Vision Switcher?

Thanks, as always, for all the help, sir. Take care!

    Sincerely,

GPO is General Purpose Output. Basically it is a Voltage Trigger that leaves the switcher to trigger devices that have GPI -- General Purpose Inputs.

VDCP is the Video Disk Control Protocol. This was the external control protocol of some of the first Video Servers (Leitch VR Series). This is based on IDs and not a "time code" like DDRs or VTRs where the cue points would have to be a timecode on the tape (or "disk" for Digital Disk Recorders).

Thank you again for all the help, Les.

I forwarded our conversation to our Engineering Department. They're still working on things.

    Take care, sir.
