  • 1.  BlackMagic HDMI to SDI converter not working on Ross Carbonite Switcher

We are hosting a downlink satellite event. The receiver has HDMI out. Im using a BlackMagic converter (HDMI to SDI) with no success. The system has 8 SDI video inputs. What settings should I make in the switcher to display the image?

    Hi Rafael,

So do you know what the format is of the output signal of the receiver? The Black Magic will not convert so the switcher needs to be set either in the same format or a format converter assigned in the input settings - if its a format that is legal. However, this may be an HDCP problem - many satellite receivers have HDMI outputs that are copy protected, if this is the case the signal simply will not pass through the HDMI-SDI converter and all you will get is black. If you select that input do you see a locked black screen? If so then the latter is probably the case and you cannot bypass the copy protection.

You mention 8 SDI inputs - if its a Carbonite it must have at least 16 but 24 input connectors. So I am curious about this.

I bought one of those BMD HDMI => HD-SDI converters, and it would not work. I got a Decimator cross converter which works fine taking mini-display port out of a Mac laptop => HDMI adapter => Decimator => HD-SDI input of the switcher. This allows us to put Skype into the switcher.
