Is there any way to create a mask in Xpression.

I simply cannot find anywhere this option.

    Thank you :)

To create a mask in XPression, you will be creating a material in the material manager. When you right click inside the material manager you see "New" and then the expandable menu will display mask as the fourth item down. From there you can choose either an image or video file. The mask can then be applied to an object like any other material.

how about to create an effect like in the attached image

    http://i43.tinypic.com/2mdrqdy.png

The irregular form mask to cut into the target circle or to show only (inverse mask) the intersected area.

Also, while in your method, the mask moves with the object, I want the mask to be able to animate independently of the targeted object (and also to apply it to multiple object in the same instance)

    Is it possible?

Well, the sphere would be one object, a quad with a circle image or a sphere with a zero zed depth and a black material. The mask would exist on a quad that sits over the other quad. You can keyframe or continuously animate the mask object over the target. What's neat is if you make the mask a child object of the target, the target can move, and the child will move with it, however the child object can move of it's own accord.

    So, it's possible.

It just does not work! :((

    I did it like this:

I made quad A mapped with a no-alpha image material.

I made another quad (M) that sits on a layer above the A.

M quad is mapped with a material made like this: New/Mask/Image. Image is a TGA file with a circle Alpha channel.

No result. Just two quads. :((

    Am I doing something wrong?

So, there is no mask option in Xpression?

    Razvan,

I think you have to have a file for your mask with a fill AND an alpha (fill is the same that alpha channel)...

When I used a mask for an own project, it works like this.
