Anyone have any luck on using a GoPro live in the Carbonite? Have experienced luck with other switchers but no luck so far on my Carbonite. I have a BMD HDMI to SDI conversion box that goes into switcher but could get something else.

    Thanks for any information.

    Hi Ryan,

I have used GoPro with success even with the same brand of HDMI to HDSDI converter. That said later when we tried to use the newer Hero3 or Hero4 we found that they are not outputting YPbPr component but rather RGB. When they changed this it makes it non standard 4:2:2 video into the switcher. The other issue is that they might not be able to be forced to output 1080i or 720p but rather outputting 1080p.

If your looking for a good small camera for this type of application you should have a look at the Marshall Cams.

Native SDI outputs on the Cameras and even have replaceable lenses.

    Les,

Thanks for your quick response. Yeah I was trying a 3+ GoPro. I also own a regular 3. Was that an earlier model that you had success with?

The Marshall looks really solid. Doesn't include power cord or mounting options. Any idea with power or do you know what the bottom looks like to mount it? Regular tripod plate screw?

Thanks for any other information !

At the top of the page on the left there is a link to mounts

As for the Hero models that always worked we found the 2 always worked. However we do have a 3 in our demo room that seems to work but i think we may be using an AJA converter and have set it to force the GoPro to the correct video space and not be defaulting it to 1080p.

I think we had problems through the BMD convertor at 1080. 720 worked fine.

We started using the decimator convertors for that and the problem is gone.

I used a Hero 3 at our Christmas show through a BMD HDMI to SDI and had to drop the Hero down to 720 to get it to work. Quality was fine for my purposes and budget, but a pure 1080 would have been nice.
