  • 1.  DashBoard MediaManager keeps the thumbnails of deleted stills of Carbonite switcher

    Posted 11-09-2016 04:26

The customer tried to delete the stills in the USB drive of Carbonite via FTP connection, but after deleted all image files in the USB folder, we still can see the image thumbnails in Dashboard MediaManager page, and the image still can load to the MediaStore. I have tried to refrash the MediaManager page, the deleted stills thumbnail still are shown. I have tried to use Filezilla and Windows browser to FTP to the Carbonite, the result is the same.

The thumbnail information stays on the USB after the media is deleted, and are only removed after a failed load attempt. So we can only select the thumbnail and try to put it in a store. It will then tell that it's not available and delete the thumbnail.

The customer thinks that it is totally a software bug for this issue. It is hard to explain that this is a normal behavior as it affects to the operation. It should delete the thumbnails together with the image files and not showing on the interface. Does the factory has a road map to solve this issue soon? We are having great pressure on this. Please help. Thanks.

    Best regards,
    Tony

When you delete a file the "database" has not had it's entry deleted. Thus the thumbnail is seen. If you click on it it will pop up a message that the file is no longer available and ask if you would like to free up the database entry. Confirming this will then clear out the database entry and the thumbnails.

Hi Les, it looks like Tony is aware of that (in his second paragraph). The customer thinks that's not good enough.

Well FTP is not able to manage a Database. The Database is also not able to "Know" that the file not being present is means to delete it's entry and all of the associated Metadata. So that is why it retains the information -- Also think of this as a situation that a file has become corrupt. It gives you the opportunity to Replace/Add back the file and still have all of the settings/metadata maintained.

We are always looking to improve things -- if we can address this while still having a way to maintain this safety check we will.

I don't know if this would cause UX issues or not, but maybe the ability to delete a file using the media manager could be added?

Is this still the case? I'd vote for an option to be able to refresh the database or delete files via MediaManager..

Dipping in to see if anyone's come up with a workaround on this.
