  • 1.  HDMI input not showing up

I have a new Carbonite Black Solo. I'm certain it's something I'm missing... just diving into this switcher and trying to get set up for this weekend. I can't get my computer to show up on the HDMI input. I see the computer sees the Carbonite as it identified the output as such. I set the resolution to 1920x1080. I have a MS Frame Sync set to HDMI 2 which is where I'm plugged in with the computer. Not sure what else to do. Doesn't seem to be any formatting handles in the menu?

make sure you set the Refresh Rate correctly in your PC. Also colour space of component would be better than RGB I think.

I tried all the refresh rates, and am not sure where to locate the changing of color space in the menu.

What is your computer? What is the operating System? are you seeing nothing? or are you trying to play something and not seeing it?

The computer was a PC laptop running windows 10. I was seeing only black, so nothing.
Mode? Not sure what you mean. 1080i 59.94?

Yes as in 1080i 59.94 is what video standard your working in -- Do you have a model for that PC? I will see if we have someone here that has a similar model -- or at least Video Card in a different model. Black means that the FrameSync is not getting a valid signal or is just getting black.

Same happens with my CB Solo, trying to input a MacBook Pro. I can see the desktop (out of sync) when the Framesync is turned off, but turns black as soon as the Framesync is in. Thought it was HDCP at first, but not so sure anymore. When put through converters (HDMI-SDI>SDI-HDMI no-scaling) the picture is fine. Dont matter what mode the CB Solo is in.

I use both MacBook Pro and an HP laptops with Windows 10 on my CB Solo.

Starting with the Mac, it is easier to setup if the Mac is already running a program like PlayBack Pro which looks at what is connected to the display output connector and auto reclocks the computer to the frame rate and resolution of the CB Solo..

If you still see the black screen, go to the color section of the display tab in the computers monitor settings and try setting it to something like REC 709 color space.for the display port which should be identified as CARBONITE.

If you do not have an app open, you can force it by selecting 'detect display' in the monitor settings and change display resolution to something odd like 720 x 480 then change back to the 1920 x 1080. That usually wakes things up for me.

For the Windows PC, it is pretty much the same, but it seems less likely to automatically set frame rate and resolution, even with open apps.
You need to,go,to monitor settings and do it manually.

Note, I have also, found that running HDMI cable longer than 25ft, or having an HDMI splitter in line which is feeding another source such as another monitor, causes the black screen issue on the CB Solo.

    Hope is works for you.
    Cheers.

    Additional note.
Use the FSFC (frame sync format convertor) with the laptop. It is easier to use these in cause your source material on the laptop is a different frame rate, resolution, progressive instead of interlaced, signal.

The frame sync available through the Frame memories 1-4 will not convert progressive to interlaced, not frame rate I.e. 720p to 1080.
