Marc:
I hate to disagree with you but these two things are not bugs. They are USER controlled switcher dialog.
1. In order to start recording a CC you have to press the "start/stop recording" function button or in dashboard clicking the same "start/stop recording" function in the CC area. Either way it is a USER input to the switcher to tell it what state it needs to preform. The same holds true if you are in the "edit mode". Either starting a new recording or editing a CC the switcher has to get the command from the user telling it to stop recording or editing.
By using your example, then nesting of CCs would not be able to be done and thus would limit what you can make the switcher do.
** nesting can make a CC recall / preform another CC **
Example:
CC (2box) -- Sets the switcher up with a predetermined 2box you have built, then runs CC (tran)
By nesting the two CCs into one the user only has to press the CC (2box) to setup the boxes and then the switcher will recall/preform the (tran) CC to the 2-box effect. (very useful for big shows)
2.
You should get in the habit of using dashboard to copy/paste/rename the CC, in my opinion. It is super simple and easy to use.
As with ALL "copy and paste" abilities on ANY computer, COPY (meaning duplicate) and PASTE (put the duplicated information in this place). With that in mind, renaming the CC then becomes an USER function.
PS - You can always use board tape to mark you switcher (if you like a lot of white tape everywhere on your switcher)
Also, think about this.....
You make 10 different transition effects on Bank 0 and each transitions to tape machine "red". Bank 1 transitions to tape machine "blue". Bank 2 transitions to tape machine "gold". Bank 3 transitions to tape machine "silver".
Bank 0 - CC 1 through 10 (trans effects)
Bank 1 - CC 1 through 10 (trans effects)
Bank 2 - CC 1 through 10 (trans effects)
Bank 3 - CC 1 through 10 (trans effects)
Each bank uses the SAME effect but just transitions to a different tape machine source. You want the CC names to be the same allowing you to know which transition you are using. You just need to select the BANK that corresponds to the machine you want to transition to. So, by using the "copy / paste" function you only have to build the first 10 effects on Bank 0 then "copy / paste" them into Bank 1,2,3 in the same CC position. Then just edit the last step in the custom control which presets which machine that Banks CC corresponds to, (red / blue / gold /silver). Saving a ton of time not having to build from scratch a new CC for each desired effect on each Bank being used.
Lastly, you said [QUOTE]When you edit a CC and you forget to click on "stop recording" and then for example select another CC for editing, then all the changes are lost. I think selecting another CC should save everything and stop the recording.....
This is not a true statement. If you are editing a CC and you are using the insert function, then everything you do is inserted into your CC including recalling another CC, Emems, sources, etc.
The point I am trying to stress is:
these are not bugs in the switcher. They are in fact operator functions.
Take your time when building / editing custom controls and remember you have to give it a start and stop recording command while building / editing your custom controls.
By using dashboard to copy a custom control, simple click inside the name box and rename it right then and there and that will solve your issue with the naming of them all being the same.
More on a personal note:
I am more of the old fashion type of technical director and it took me a long time to even open up dashboard needless to say use it. But, after I did, it finally clicked in my head how simple somethings are when using this program. Then again I can build a custom control faster using the switcher buttons than using dashboard. However, if the only thing I am changing in the custom control is what artwork is being shown (think ESPN transitions... player names / team names / flares / flashes) almost all of them have a cut-point under the artwork at the same point in time (15 frames, 20 frames or 1 second), so by building one and copying that one to other CCs then going back and editing what artwork is to be used, then renaming the CC. I can build a switcher with over 80 different looks in a matter of 30 minutes.
