James and James :)
I don't see any follow up to this so I hope it was all resolved.
2 things to note -- if you store the memory with a specific mode to recall in then you have to make sure that on the "recall" Attributes side of things that you do have the Memory Mode enabled. When you pick a mode on the Recall side of the Memory system it will override the memory mode that was stored with the memory.
Second. Memory AI will only Recall to the "Preview" side of the ME if that ME is On-Air. So if you have ME 2 selected as the source on the PGM/PST ME (the half ME since you say your in 2.5 ME mode) then you will see it recall to the "Preview" side of the ME. However if the ME is "off-air" then Memory AI will recall it to the PGM side of the ME for you so that you can then take it to air on the .5 ME.
You could consider putting a Hold on the Custom Control before the "transition" on the ME. You could also add a select ME 2 on the PST Bus of the .5 ME. Then you could chose to do the Media Wipe on the PGM ME -- followed by cancelling the active Custom Control (just press an empty CC or make one to Cancel Active Custom Controls). In the Memory you could have it that it selects the DVE wipe. Then in the Custom it could change it to media after the Hold. That way if the ME was on air -- then it will recall the memory to PV. You then "continue" the Macro so that it sleets Media Wipe and does the transition then sets it back to DVE.
Also you will want to have another Custom Control for Transitioning on the .5 ME. That way if the ME was off air it will recall the memory to the PGM side of the ME (and since you added that select ME2 on the PST bus of the .5) you will see it in Preview and then run a Media Wipe on the .5 ME that wipe could also have an event in it that at the end of the wipe tells the other CC to cancel.
