  • 1.  Can I apply a mask to rolling text?

I'm attempting to roll credits at the end of a show, but need them to fade-in as they scroll up from the bottom and fade-out before they reach the top of the screen. I'd normally create a feathered mask to do this (in AE), but can't work out how to apply an image mask (basically a blurry box image) to my rolling text.

    Any ideas?

Create a material and use a feathered targa or png.

On layer one of your material, go to blending, source factor=zero.

Apply this to a quad and use this object in your Scene group. Make sure it's Z position is greater than your crawl text.

This should get you the look your going for.

    Thanks Gregory,

I should've mentioned that the background wasn't black. (It was a looping texture)

In the end i made 2 quads - one with the looping texture as a background, and the other with a feathered hole in the middle of the looping texture.

Then i set my rolling text to 'render priority normal' so it sandwiched between the layers.

Looks just like a feathered mask.

Is there no way to "group" a quad with a mask material attached to it with a number of other quads, and have that mask only affect the contents of that grouping?

Currently using the solution Anthony found, it works in most instances.

Maori, in the current 3.x versions, no. This is going to be a V4 feature.

Is this option already added in the current version? Or are we still using the 'solution' Anthony provided us?
