    Hi there!

So, I've found some posts about this before, but I couldnt quite get what I needed.

    Here's my case:

    • We want to produce video for a big screen in our hockey arena.
    • We want to use video provided by an external producer (they have a ROSS mixer) to show on our screens.
    • However we do NOT want the replays (some rules about not challenging the refs decisions etc...).
    • So, I'm looking for a way to just show them how to set it up so that I get their clean feed from ME1 out on AUX1 (i.e.) but whenever ME1 shows the input from the replay machine I want either a graphic, or a wide shot of the arena.
I know this is possible in Grass Valley and Sony mixers, but no clue where to even begin with a ROSS mixer.
Most of what I find about this is for multi screen purposes... But that's not quite what I'm after.
And I hope it's easy enough so that I can explain to an external producer.

So on a Vision or an Acuity you would use the AutoFollows systems to achieve a similar result with substitutions.

There is an example where we used a DashBoard Panel to do this monitoring of the Bus and then do the substitution for you. That is one option and it can work.

Since your only trying to keep out Replays -- its normal that for Replay events we have a Replay In and Replay Out Custom Controls -- since they usually use a special Wipe transition. So they could just build it into those Effects that they change the AuxBus that is feeding your board from the ME CLN Feed to a Still or Beauty Shot. In the past we have built something similar using a MiniME so that you can even keep the wipes. We just Key the Wipe on in the MiniME Key 2 as well as on the PGM ME. So in the Custom Control we turn the Key on When we do the Wipe and then Turn the Key OFF when it turns off on the PGM ME as well.

For the Replay IN even we add the selection of the Still Store or Camera on the PST bus of the MiniME -- there is usually an event that is setting the ME the replay with run as well. Then where they run the wipe effect -- we also cut on the MiniME Keyer that has that as the source. When they insert the CUT on the PGM ME then they also Add the Cut on the MiniME. Finally when they cut the keyer off air they also cut the MiniME keyer off air as well.

Then they do the reverse on the Replay Out event -- just making sure to select the PGM ME CLN source on that MiniME.

Hmmm, I see where you're going with this.
To build a DashBoard panel to do this is not an option, as this is an external producer and not the same guys every time.
I was hoping there would be an easier way to do this in a ROSS mixer to be honest, but ok.

I might be able to ask for a general GPI from their mixer whenever they go to replay source as a custom control or something.. Hmm...

Might I suggest this as a future feature in a ROSS mixer? An easier way to do this...

Ross mixers in the Vision and Acuity series do have this feature. Just not in the Carbonite.

Ok let me rephrase, may I suggest this addition in a Carbonite and Graphite mixer for later then?
It's a very usefull tool, and while I understand that you might want to argue a Vision or Acuity mixer for this, I hardly think THIS is your selling point...
More of a usefull tool that some might use.

As you mention, there are allready ways to work around this and "get" this function through Custom Controls and Mini MEs, or through DashBoard.
    Just thinking to simplify...

Absolutely agree -- However only so many features they can complete in each release and we are always working as much as we can.

That I dont doubt at all! Allways been happy with ROSS support and development!

Looking forward to the day I'll find substitution tables in Carbonite/Graphite sollutions! :D
