  • 1.  Capturing video to USB

    Posted 08-17-2019 20:29

    Hi,

We have recently started using a Carbonite Ultra and I have done a lot of the setup.

Quite a few of our more complex demos require the capturing of stills for which I have set up a custom control.  I am capturing stills to USB and loading them but find that it takes around 10 seconds to load a still from the moment it is captured by pressing the button to run the CC.

The CC is simply capturing the video, saving it to the USB as a numbered capture (e.g. 601_capture.jpg) and then loading it into M1 or M2 input.

I just wondered if there is a way to make this happen quicker?  I feel like I am missing something obvious.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Gary,

There is a little bit of time between the "freeze" in Ram Cache which is done in Video full resolution 10 bit 4:2:2 which has to then be converted as a sub task by the processor into the PNG which is then Saved to the USB....Which it then has to load that from USB and put it back into Ram Cache -- especially since you might be loading it into the other bank of Ram Cache.

One pair of media stores is on one 4GB Memory and the other pair is on another.  They can not access the same Ram Cache.

Secondly speed of the USB Stick has a big deal with this.  Lot's of USB flash drives have slower Read/Write than say a small 2.5  inch Drive.  There are really fast USB sticks (I have an OZ Rally that is dual data rate memory) which perform much better than the standard ones....especially if these are the ones you get as "swag" since they tend to be the cheapest that can be purchased.
