  • 1.  Hide TSL Address on built-in multiviewers?

    Posted 01-13-2020 05:37

I've started to use TSL UMD for tally in our facility, for on-camera tally units (we don't have CCUs), replacing an arduino I had plugged into the tally port of the Carbonite.

Anyway, I came across an issue where the Carbonite isn't using the addresses specified, but rather the input number is being sent out as the address. So, if I have camera 1 on input 1, and I specified address 5 for input 1, it's actually using address 1 instead of 5 (seems to be a bug). So to get around that, I've moved camera 1 to input 5 so that the tally information comes through on the right address. That works fine and gives me what I want, but, the TSL addresses appear on the built-in multiviewer windows, and it's confusing to look at the labels ("1:TSL 5" for Camera 1, "2:TSL 6" for Camera 2, and so on). This would probably happen if the addressing worked properly too.

Is there a way to hide the TSL labels on the built-in multiviewers?

    James.

PS the reason for the specific addressing is the way our facility is set up with two studios sharing a control room, and not something that can be changed.

    Hi James,

First -- There is no changing of the TSL UMD Output Addresses.  They are a fixed table and can not be configured.  We also use the extra IDs to be able to create bus messaging so that you could track back through all Aux and ME Buses to find every source that is on every bus for doing complex tally management....This was done with TSL for the Tallyman, but also implemented by other management systems.

Now to what you are seeing.  There is a separate TSL INPUT that is a server running on port 5727 of the Carbonite.  This allows a Router (like Ultrix) or a Tally Management system (VSM, TSL, DNF, Image Video, etc....) to send UMD names (and tally if you want to over ride the switcher tally calculation) to replace the Input Names.

You only set a UMD Address next to the Inputs when you want to have the inputs driven by and external controller for names.

You will need to create rules in your tally controller so that it can accept the table from the Carbonite and then re address the system as needed.

Thanks Les. Removing the addresses off the inputs did the trick. It wasn't clear to me from the documentation.

No Problem....Another "Carbonite U" video that needs to be made :)

Can't wait for our new Demo/training room to be finished so we can get back to making some of these...
