    Hello,

A little question for @bolson and the other guys from Ross.

It's great that you added effects to Xpression, it's what we've been waiting for since a very long time :-)

However, is there a way to animate the Effects?

I have som immediate use for it but I would need to go from blurred to unblurred and color to desaturated in an animation, so no on and off but animated. Is there a way to do that because in the Scene Director I can't see anything yet.

    Kenneth,

If you look at the scene director you will see a new area of tracks in the center that are labeled by object. You can drag and drop effects onto these tracks then by expanding the track add oppacity keyframes, just like you would with a video clip. This will allow you to fade the effect on or off at a certain point in time.

You cannot yet animate the properties of the effects but that is not something we have overlooked and will be possible in the near future.

    Cheers,

    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the hint. I didn't think of putting the effect on the object timeline. But that does the trick perfectly.

    Best regards,

    Kenneth

Andrew, are there also any plans on making the object "animation controllers", such as the effects, available trough the API. So in order to be able to reset the effect to the beginning of the animation.

Is there an issue with the dropshadow effect, or am I doing something wrong?

If I set the softness to other values then 0 the shadow is corrupted.

Version 5 has not been released yet. We are currently wrapping up the documentation and procedures. It is expected to be release in the next 7-10 days.

Keep watching the website for updates.

    Hi Glen,

Oh, then I'm using a beta-version then? Can I notify you of a bug for the actual release?

When you have a group with various children-objects in it and you try to delete the group you get an Exception-error.

    I'm currently using Xpression 5.1, build 2505

Also one remark about the API-documentation, where I have been struggling to get it right is when you are using the SetKeyFrameTCB-method.

One of the properties is telling you to use the string of the keychannel to use. In the documentation it is shown as kc_ScaleX where you actually have to use Scale.X, so maybe this could be corrected as well?

    Thanks,

    Kenneth

    Hey Kenneth,

I would use our regular support to log the bugs you are seeing. I know our developers do look at these posts, but immediate feedback is a better way to log what you are seeing.

If you use techsupport@rossvideo.com that will get it logged for our QA and testing.

    Hi Kenneth,

The SetKeyFrameTCB method in xpBaseObject does take kc_ScaleX as a parameter; however these methods have been obsoleted and should not be used any longer. You should get a warning in the Debug Monitor telling you they are obsolete.

You should use the xpAnimController.SetKeyframeValueTCB function instead which takes "Scale.X" as a string parameter.

    Regards,

    Brian

    Hi Kenneth,

Even though you can't currently keyframe the new effects system; you can modify their parameters using the API. If you contact Ross Video Tech support they could send you a sample .NET app that shows how to do it.

You need to use the xpEffect and xpEffectStack classes; basically you start with:

    xpBaseObject.GetEffectStack; then EffectStack.GetEffect()

Once you have the effect you can get xpProperty's from it and query the property names and set their values.
