I am building a custom DashBoard panel to drive my Carbonite Plus remotely....with my audio console patched out of the path to Master Control...since I cannot control the console.

I've found that audio from keyed sources doesn't seem to pass through, so key-over opens and stingers are a challenge. Is there any way to change that?

Also, I haven't a way to hear the audio output in the control room, but my assumption is that only the source on program will actually pass audio. I'm hoping to use a double box split, but with the above assumption, I will need to build my split effect with the two sources on the program & preview buses, and cut back and forth for any interaction.

Does anybody have ideas that would make it easier? Is it possible?

    Thanks, James.

    Hi James,

There is no Audio Mixer in the switcher.  This means that only the audio on the BKGD Bus of the ME will Pass through the switcher.  Also only from sources that do not have a frame Sync Enabled on them.

You do need to have a separate Audio Mixer that you then embed back into the video before final destination.

    Hey Les!

We run a Wheatstone Evolution-6 that is embedded before Master Control. I talked with my engineers and did a little research, and we decided that I cannot touch the Wheatstone remotely.

This DashBoard panel would allow us to continue operation in a worst-case scenario yet look mostly the same.

My approach is that I keep my anchor on program anytime they are speaking and use a downstream keyer to insert any source they will voice over (this does sacrifice natural sound, but I don't mind that for an emergency.) For a soundbite, I will take that source to program and clear the VOkeyer. A VO continue is trickier---after the soundbite, I insert that same source on the VOkeyer and take the anchor to program.

Does my plan for split boxes seem like it will work?

    On ME1:

    Anchor1 on program. Anchor2 on preview. Split background on keyer1. Anchor1 & Anchor2 boxes on keyer2, 3, or 4.

Then for Q&A, I cut back and forth from Anchor1 to Anchor2.

Similarly, I need a Chromakey for my meteorologist.

    On MiniME4:

Met on program. Weather graphics on keyer1. Met chromakeyed on keyer2.

To confirm, does a source on background bus of a MiniME or ME1 pass audio when I take the MiniME or ME1 to air on ME2?

What if I reconfigured and added another output to be "Always On Air"? ...or is that just to risky?

    Thanks, James.

We do have a Custom DashBoard Panel that we can sell.  It translates the the Yamaha protocol into Wheatstone protocol and can then give you the ability to perform AFV and control faders.

    Les,

This custom panel is very interesting---a far better option than the panel I've built with audio following video! I have an email out to Sandra Hernandez for a price, but she is having trouble nailing that down. Could you reach out to her to see if you could help her with a quote and specs? Are there any concerns with making it work depending upon our configuration?

    Thanks,

    James.

I was already talking with regards to this and have forwarded the information to the appropriate people.
