Using an Carbonite Black Solo, is it possible to trigger playback from an AJA Ki Pro Ultra Plus?

You would need to build a DashBoard custom panel that would build buttons to send the HTTP post messages to the KiPro. Then you would build Custom controls to send RossTalk messages to that Panel that would trigger the buttons.

There is a dashboard forum post where people were sharing how they were doing it.

How would this be done from an Acuity? Dashboard works but sometimes the TD needs to control playback from the switcher... and would auto-roll be possible? Not sure if KiPro supports VDCP or AMP, but I'm guessing not.

Hi. Works the same way. You use RossTalk Messages to send to the DashBoard Panel.

On Carbonite you set up as an XPression so that you can pick the GPI command for the Button that would be play. Like say 1 :). Or you can name the DashBoard GPI butto. NEXT instead of a number and that will work if you select NEXT as your auto roll command "” that is the default by the way.

On Acuity set up the device "” again sending to dashboard "” with version 8 you can assign a On-Air custom control to the source. This follows the same pre roll and Roll clip rules.

Now build your CC to fire the Button you built to control the KiPro okay command.

And correct your not able to use VDCP or AMP with KiPro. They so support basic serial port commands with 422 VTR protocol. But to cue clips and use loop you have to use their HTTP Post Messages.

I've built a panel that controls the KiPro Racks, I'm sure the protocol for the Ultra is the same or similar. You could attach GPI commands to the buttons you want and trigger them as Les is mentioning.

So you do know that we make affordable video servers :)

Considering they also do VDCP and AMP plus have DashBoard support that does not require users give away their work for free ;)it is of even better value.......

I do know, and that's what I meant by 'temporary'. :) I'd much prefer the Tria 8-channel unit to replace our failing TriCaster (which we're only using for ISO recording thanks to our Acuity) but it wasn't a trivial budget item last time we checked. There was also some question of how well it did 4K recording, but that was over a year ago, so I'm hoping it's progressed enough that it's a contender. Time to get another quote.

We have successfully loaded a custom panel in Dashboard for Ki Pro Ultra 12G and are able to start recording using the custom control through Ross Talk.  However, when we press stop on the KiPro the display started blinking fast with an alarm "Name In Use. Clip exists on media (multichannel)". Also, on the dashboard panel, the record button was blinking fast with a status of "Unable to Record. The unit is currently in use."  The only way to get the blinking to stop on the KiPro and Dashboard was to close the custom panel.

Any idea what could be causing this?

Really, all we need is two commands to the Ki Pro Ultra 12G, a Start Record and a Stop Record.

We have that problem all the time without Dashboard.  It is the KiPro itself and you have to go into the menus and under the media section make changes.  I reset the following Reel name, Clip Number,Take all back to zero.  Ensure the Custom Clip Take is ON and hopefully that will solve your problems.

We tried what you suggested and it still does the same thing.

Also, I should have mentioned before, when not triggered through Dashboard it works perfectly.  So it's definitely something with what the custom panel is trying to name it, the Ki Pro isn't liking it.

Ok It was worth the try.  I haven't used it any of mine in Dashboard yet so I will continue following this link for any updates as I will be making an option in Dashboard for them.

The above panel is what any KiPro Rec provides if you log onto it via it's IP address.  Mine are set to static so I can remember the address and also for connecting it to other devices.

The only functions of the Ki Pro Ultra 12G we are needing to use are Record Start and Record Stop so we can trigger them via custom controls on the Ross.

Also looking to do the same for our BMD Hyperdecks

Make sure Custom Clip Name is turned on in the Ki Pro settings.

I have verified that setting.  The KiPro still flashes "Name In Use. Clip exists on media (multichannel)" when in multichannel encode.  When set to single channel encode it doesn't flash, however we aren't able to stop recording at the KiPro or Dashboard until we close the custom panel, then the stop button works on the KiPro.

I wrote it for the single channel Ki Pro Rack that we have, so my guess is it is just not compatible with that model.
