    HI,

I have a few queries about the using Media Wipes on a Carbonite Plus.

Since 13.0.2 you can now choose the Keyer level at which a Media Wipe is applied.
Firstly: If you use a Clean Feed Output set to the same Keyer level, will the Clean feed have the Wipe on or not?

And Secondly: Is it possible to have a Media Wipe just play the animation, and not perform a cut? Or is there a way to access the Media Wipe keyer for playing wipes, without using it as a Media Wipe?

I'm asking because for our usage, we would always play the wipe on ME2, even when the actual cut is being performed upstream on ME1 or a MiniME. At the moment I use DSK4 on ME2 to do this, but I need that keyer back for something else.

    Cheers

You can not select the wipe keyer without it doing the transition. I would suggest that you make sure you have the same BKGD selected when you do the wipe that way you're cutting to the same source.

The Wipe Keyer will always be visible in the clean feed no matter what they keyer setting is.

    Hi Les,

That is what I feared for the media Wipe Keyer, I might try adding a cut at the same frame into the macro, and see if that is clean enough to not need to set the preset, as I know some of the directors won't be able to get on with that.

With the Clean Feed, do I then read it correctly, that if I was the take a clean feed from after keyer 2 and position the media wipe after keyer 3, that the clean feed would still have the wipe on? That doesn't sound to me like how things would normally work, and requires multiple keyers inside the mixer to achieve.

    Cheers

Well that is the Crux of it -- we have had numerous requests that the Media Wipe always be left in the Clean feed. -- again not normal since if you were to use a Wipe or DVE wipe those would not show up if they were above the clean point...However we made that choice to include the media wipe since it appeared to be the most desired solution.

    Hi Les,

Thank you for the explanation. I assume it's a little late in the day to ask if it would be possible to make the Media Wipe on the Clean a selectable option?

I have always in preference used a DSK to realise the wipes, as it makes them more flexible, but I'm now running a little low on keyers with the extra requirements I've been given for this season.

    Cheers

Why not use a MiniME DownStream of the "PGM" ME to act like this DSK? Then you would not see the wipe on the clean Feed.

At the moment, I have a lack of MiniME's to use for that. I've already got 2 downstream of ME2 doing overlays as it is.

I'm having a conversation at the moment to try and get them to agree what they want, and if there are any facilities I can remove to free up resources.

As a rough idea, we are feeding two main outputs, with both needing to be valid in 2 different aspect ratios, can have different sources on each but need the same graphics and wipes, and the inputs can be provided in either aspect depending on what they are designed for/when they are show. Split screens and PiP's also required. It's a fairly busy setup.
