  • 1.  Help needed with Custom Controls to recall a Scene in XPression and to clear it

    Posted 06-15-2020 23:27

    Hello all,

Eventhough I know XPression inside-out, I'm not very familiar with the Carbonite Black, which is why I'm turning to this Community.

I need to put two Custon Controls on the panel of a Carbonite Black. One Custom Control will be used to trigger a scene with a fixed Take ID in XPression and the other Custom Control will be used to clear that layer in XPression.

I have been watching a video on the Carbonite U that explains the link between XPression and Carbonite, but right at the money-shot, it shows the output and I can't see which button he is pressing... (https://youtu.be/vcArfNBzzvU?t=782)

So I can select the Take ID and set up the Channel/Layer selection but I don't know how he triggers the action in the video.

So just for clarity, I have added the XPression as a device to the Carbonite and I have assigned the channel that I need. The link between Carbonite and XPression is working because when I select the key and turn the knob for UP/DOWN, the selection moves up and down in the XPression Sequencer.

So that's all working but I'm hoping somebody here can give me a step-by-step tutorial on how to set up both Custom Controls.

So what I would need to do:

    • Create a custum control on Bank 2 Position 1 that will Take the clip with TakeID 2100 on Channel 2, Layer 2.

    • Create a custum control on Bank 2 Position 2 that will perform a LayerOff on Channel 2, Layer 2.

    • Display the Custom Control Bank 2 on the panel of the Carbonite Black.

I hope someone can help me out.

    Thank you in advance,

    Ken

I don't have a switcher in front of me, but my guess is Les is just clicking/pressing the 3rd knob "Take Action" at that point.

    Hi Simon,
That seemed the most logic for me as well so I did try that but that didn't do anything.
I could rotate it to change it to Cue Action but pressing the knob didn't do anything.

Hello, all. If I'm reading Kenneth's post correctly, he's building a Custom Control macro to load an XPression graphic using a specific Take ID and then clear that graphic afterward. From his post, it appears he's building the macro on the Control Panel instead of DashBoard, so when the XPression Take Channel/Layer command is visible, pressing the third button (Take Action) will initiate the XPression recall and place the command in the macro list. Clearing the layer is the same process; when the Clear button is pressed, it will enter the command in the list.

Depending on the exact need, it may be advantageous to put both commands in the same macro separated by a Hold command. Then, the first time the macro button is pressed, the graphic will load to the designated Framebuffer and Layer, and then begin to flash, indicating that it is held and awaiting a second button press. The second press will clear the layer.

BTW, although all Custom Control macro commands are available on the panel, it might be easier to record and edit the macros in DashBoard since all the commands are then visible on a single screen.

    Good luck

    tjt
