  • 1.  Autofollow with delay

Hi, just curious... if other people out there encountered this scenario, but I'm pretty sure that I am not the only one 🙂 We have a backstage area with a monitor where we the PGM output ist displayed usually. It certainly is displayed with a delay of a number of frames due to the signal processings on the path to that particular monitor plus the processing delay within the monitor itself (which actually is a consumer TV). Sometimes we have to show that backstage area on air (with one particular camera, same all the times) and thus we use the autofollow function with the backstage camera replaced by another stage cam in order to avoid a feedback displayed on that monitor (the BS camera would normally see its own picture on the monitor). All fine at this point except that the signal delay is causing the BS camera to alwalys see the CUT from the previously on air cam to the replacing cam on the monitor due to the signal delay. In order to avoid that one would have to cut the replacement cam on the monitor BEFORE the actual on air cam ist switched to the BS cam. Haha, certainly the switcher can not timetravel, the only applicable way to achieve that is to delay the actual cut on the PGM-ME after the pushing the button while the at the same time the replaced camera on the following ME is cut immediately with the button pushed. The amount of that delay would have to be the amount of the signal delay to that monitor. We have done that on GV switchers (with an attached macro (replace-attached) to the BS cam button on the PGM-ME) but there is no straightforeward method. A side effect there is, that one can not run that macro by mixing to that BS cam on PGM bus. You have to push the crosspint button. But thats not been a problem for the customer. I just wonder, if anybody else would like to have an easy way of accomplishing this task. For instance a delay between the attached macro function to the original function would be nice and handy. But I guess the follow function is not based on the button push but more likely on the "to be replaced cam" getting on air... Well my main question here is: are we alone with that scenario? Would it be interesting for other users to have an easy way of achieving that goal? Thanks to everyone!

Acuity can have Custom Controls "attached" to a source for "On Air. OFF Air and On PST...

you could attach the custom control to the Source of the Back Stage Camera.  That would cut the Auto follow to switch from the PGM source to the "replace source" (by actually assigning the source to the bus that does the follow since you can do that.) when you select it.  Then you can Cut or Mix to it and the Backstage source with Monitor will have already been switched.....  Ideally this also give them a heads up that they are about to be on air :)
