    Has anyone had any experience with a video play out software called "playdeck"? If so were you able to integrate it to any Ross switchers, most relevant to me is the Carbonite series? The software at first glance is well laid out. It has a lot of options. Seems easy to use fro the demo I've been playing with. I guess I'm curious if I can integrate it to roll video clips from my Carbonite?

    Hi Michael,

    Playdeck supports TCP commands, which Carbonite is able to send. I tested this on a Graphite and it works.

    1. Enable TCP commands on Playdeck.
    - Take note of the port (default 11375).
    - The 'Show Commands' button is useful to see the command syntax. 

    2. Setup a RossTalk device on your Carbonite.
    - This link will help: http://help.rossvideo.com/carbonite-device-db/Topics/Devices/RossTalk/RossTalk.html
    - Input the same port number as the one on Playdeck.
    - If this step is successful, Playdeck will show that 1 client is connected.

    3. Create a Custom Control to send a RossTalk command
    - Devices > RossTalk (Generic) > RossTalk Custom Cmd

    If it doesn't work, check your firewall. Hope it goes well for you!

    Aaron thanks for the prompt response. I was looking this morning and it appears that I do not have a "devices" tab under my "configuration" tab to set up RossTalk. Under the ethernet set up there is a port for RossTalk. I do not see a way to add the Ross Talk Device. I've attached some pictures of what I see in the config.

    Hi Michael,

    Thanks for the screenshots. I spotted that your Carbonite is the older Carbonite Plus model. You will need to add the RossTalk device via the physical panel. This link will step you through it. http://help.rossvideo.com/carbonite-device/Topics/Devices/RossTalk/RossTalk.html#RossTalk

    Once you get pass step 2, step 3 should be the same on your Carbonite.

    Side note, the RossTalk port that you saw (7788) is for Carbonite to receive commands. But in this case of communicating with PlayDeck, we want Carbonite to send the commands.

    In the directions for setting up the Rosstalk there is a step where you select a "slot". How do you know what slot number a particular ethernet connection is? Once you config the Rosstalk is there a way to edit that set up? It looks like when you go back into that Rosstalk configuration there is no way to edit it.

    Slot is a "virtual com port" and yes all items can be edited including the Slot number even.  You get to pick which slot to associate the device with... again this is a Virtual thing since we also have the SP for the physical serial port.  

    When a custom control is created it will reference the Slot as will when you associate the Slot with a physical input so you get device control following.

    I've done nothing with custom controls. Do you have any examples that you can share that would show what the sequence would look like to trigger a playout channel from the Playdeck software?

    That U video shows how to work with RossTalk and Custom Controls regarding an XPression.  You would want to use the Custom Command and the example that Aaron gave you.
