Looping Clips

I've noticed some clips that are in the clip list don't always have the Loop option highlighted as being selectable.

I try to bypass this by inserting a Play Loop On command in the CC but the clip will only play through and not loop.

    Wondering why this is.

    Running:

    Vision 3 V 16.1d MD

    Blackstorm 1.2.0.239/Dashboard 5.1.0

I believe it is because you are running a Blackstorm. If memory serves the blackstorm loops via the dashboard interface either ON or OFF and not on a clip by clip basis but as a global command. I may be in error I have not used a Blackstorm for awhile.

In Vision you can actually give a clip a loop property so that the switcher will tell the BVS (or other server if supported) to enter into Loop Mode.

There is a minimum Clip Duration for loop. This is actually meant for other servers that don't offer the loop function and the switcher does the looping. under extra option of the device you should be able to lower this value.

    Les,

Does this apply to the SMS server as well? I've had issues when trying to set clips to loop within the assign clips menu. Whenever a clip is set to loop, it won't play. When it is not set to loop, it plays but I can't get the SMS to loop without manually activating the loop setting on the SMS channel.

What Version of SMS do you have running? I don't think it supports the Loop extension in VDCP that we use with BlackStorm to set the loop. Also what version of Vision do you have? And what Device Driver under extra options for target device do you have running?

    David:

When we had a blackstom connected to a Carbonite I could never get it to loop. I am aware you are using a Vision but I still think it is a blackstorm issue. Since we changed to the Xpression as "the server" no problems looping and has always worked.

The work around I did was to make two custom controls and nest them into each other.

    IE:

    CC#1

    Load Clip

    Play Clip

    Pause xx sec

    Recall CC#2

    CC#2

    Load clip

    Play Clip

    Pause xx sec

    Recall CC#1

    Hence a loop was achieved.

Maybe you could do the same with the Vision and your blackstorm. Just a thought. :)

Gordon-- they have SMS not BlackStorm. Much older version. In Vision we do have the Loop command for BVS (we are going to be getting it eventually in Carbonite).

But I really need the SMS software version, Vision Version and also Target Device your using for SMS (there is more than 1).

Sorry about me thinking they were using a Blackstorm...

I know Vision has the loop command - I use it when I am on that switcher :)

Since I was under the impression of them using a Blackstorm I though out there the way I was able to loop with it. All I was trying to convey.

    Les,

We're on Vision 16.o and SMS server is on sofware version 4.5.42 - Hardware version Mio8000.

I'm not on-site, so I can't tell you the device driver version off the top of my head.

Not a bad idea, Gordon, but I'd love to avoid that added complexity. I'll file that trick away as a last resort.

You should be able to run with the Loop functions. It is probably a driver setting to the older SMS version and this is why it is not going into loop mode.

So the SMS has an older driver or Vision needs a new driver? Any instructions on where to find a newer driver would be appreciated.

In Vision when you set up the remote port for Video Server under Extra Options you select the "target device" There are more than 1 target devices for SMS. Make sure your on the SMSv4.2 I think it is called. Also you can try the BlackStorm target device as I think it was pretty much the same.
