Sending RossTalk from Carbonite

    Hey Guys,
I tried everything but I'm stuck here.
I want to trigger Qlab from a Ross Carbonite Black Solo (i.e. via a CC macro). I know that QLab does not understand RossTalk so I thought it might be easy to use Dashboard or Companion to receive RossTalk from the switcher and pass it on.
I created a CustomPanel in Dashboard and build a button to trigger Qlab via an UDP-Command which works fine. Now I try to trigger that button from the switcher but I can't make this work.
I followed this video since it is more or less exactly what I need. CarbToBMDHD
I also downloaded the BMDHD CustomPanel but I simply can't get the switcher to trigger it. Now one main difference I noticed is that where it says GPI Trigger in the button-menu in the video I only see Trigger ID.
Next I tried to trigger Companion via it's RossTalk-listener but it is the same here. It simply seems like there is no command coming in.
I'm not a network-guru so I don't really know where to start searching the problem.
The switcher is directly connected to a M1 MacBookPro. Controlling the switcher via Dashboard works fine.
    Any ideas?
    THX:-)

Have you configured a RossTalk port between switcher and dashboard?

    Hi Malcom,
are you referring to the RossTalk port 7788?
On the switcher side I did everything like in the video, always using port 7788. In Dashboard I enabled the global RossTalk GPI listener (7788). I also added the port number to the GPI listener tab in the top level container of my custom panel.

What I am referring to is done from the switcher panel. You need to configure a RossTalk port between the switcher and the machine that is running the dashboard you are using. There are tutorials on this website that make it so easy to configure.

    Hi Malcom,

    thanks for answering.

What I did on the switcher panel was:

     - Device config: added RossTalk to slot 0 -> tried both, xpression and generic -> set up the IP of my MacBook -> port: 7788, preroll: 0, roll clip: on, roll command: GPI1

Input settings: Input 1 -> device: slot 0

Bus map settings: XPTButton 1: Input 1 -> pressed XPT 1 -> Trigger action GPI 1

But still nothing happening in Dashboard.

I also set up a custom command which also did not work.

I wish I was sitting at a switcher right now. But that's not possible. What if you tried reverse communication? send a command from your dashboard to the switcher to see if any coms are getting through. I'm not a switcher specialist so I can't walk you through unless Im sitting at a switcher. I was thinking you could also send a gpi trigger from switcher to xpression then add a script on the xpression to do what you want. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Mal what he is trying to do is totally possible and how we have done many "translators" between the switchers and other devices..  The issue is what I list below he just has the Dashboard RossTalk listener in the wrong place....

That is not where you setup the listener for the dashboard RossTalk incoming ... You do it in the Preferences menu..  under RossTalk there is a Check Box.

Make sure you don't have a firewall running .. if you do you will need to open up the port you use..

If this is on a machine also say running XPression make sure you change the Port to something that is not also setup to listen for RossTalk on port 7788 .. change them on the dashboard preferences to 7789 and then the same on the switcher setup.

Excellent Les, I was hoping you would see this one. Port number did enter my mind but I didn't really think about it. Good call.

Just saw that Macbook was listed ... so use my Mac..

There you go to Window - Preferences and then Select RossTalk GPI Listener and Enable the Global Listener here..

    Hey guys,
    thank you for your support.
Back in the Studio I finally got it to work today.
Unfortunately I did not do any changes from the setup I had before so I can't tell why it did not work the last time.
There were only two things different from my last tries which were A - a restart of all devices and B - I had Wifi disabled on the MacBook when I opened Dashboard. Is it possible that the Global GPI listener might refer to the wrong network adaptor when there is more than one available?
    Anyhow, it works perfectly now:-)
    All the best,
    Philip

Yes in the Preferences you can force dashboard to a specific network adapter.
