  • 1.  Carbonite Ultra vs Carbonite SDPE Keyers

    Posted 05-15-2021 13:11
    Hey all,

I am currently evaluating a switcher solution to purchase at the end of the year. Presently, I'm looking at Carbonite Ultra, but I love the form factor the SDPE card has for long term expansion. I did notice, however, in addition to only supporting 2 M/Es instead of 3 in CUF, SPDE supports 6+1 keyers while CUF is stuck with 4+1.

Would anyone from the switcher team know if there's an intention to increase the keyers available on CUF, or were the keyers "stolen" from the missing 3rd M/E on SPDE due to performance issues?

When we aligned on the feature set for Ultrix Carbonite we looked at all aspects and feedback.  The most common switcher size in Carbonite was 2MEs...  Due to the fact that there are 4 MiniMEs that each now have 2 full keyers and full preview (as of Ultra prior to that they did not have PV and Key 1 was DVE only) the switcher is effectively 6 MEs when the Second Full ME was enabled.

With Ultrix Carbonite we opted for having 2x 6 keyer MEs and since you can re-order the resources it is easy to use a MiniME now as the "Half ME" and change the PGM ME to be only ON Air when it is on the MiniME that is now set as the On Air ME. This also makes building 4 Boxes with Graphics overlays easier as you don't require placing the ME into a MiniMe to add that extra Keyer..
