I'm running into an odd experience with a video file I've applied as a material within a scene in XPression Designer 9. The animation, which is 180 frames, contains an alpha channel and was converted from a Tiff sequence to an XPression compatible file. The issue arises when I add the scene to the Sequence and play it out through my Virtual Output. The file plays to the last frame of the animation, and it appears to show a remnant of the alpha channel from an earlier frame. I've double-checked the alpha channel from the file I rendered out and checked the project file, and neither of those shows anything other than the logo at the last frame of the animation. I've also rendered out a Targa sequence with a premultiplied alpha channel, to ensure it wasn't an alpha channel issue. Looking at the image below, the portion of the image which shouldn't be there are the circular rings behind the logo text/target brandmark. Is there an alpha setting I'm missing in the material settings or is this an issue with the output to my Virtual Output?

For context, the full animation is here:

Here is a screenshot of my Virtual Output window:

I should also note that the rings behind the logo only appear when the animation has reached frame 180 of the playback. I have tried shortening the frame count of the Tiff sequence, to 170, and applied that version as a material, but the issue persists.

Just curious... is your video texture progressive or interlaced?

It's a progressive texture Willie... Rendered out at 29.97 fps.

I've taken the scene to an on-air XPression system and it appears to play out without the rings appearing at the end of the animation. Could the issue I'm seeing be a result of how the Virtual Output in XPression Designer 9 presents the file or perhaps this is specific to the graphics built-into the laptop running Designer?

Well, I do know that the virtual output is not a 100% effective test of a scene.  You never really know how a thing looks or performs until it is on a proper hardware output.  This is problematic for me, as we only have Virtual Outs in house.  So, it could be, as you surmise as simple as a product of that disparity.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Sometimes I've found that even if you set the shaped/unshaped settings when you convert a file in video encoder, you sometimes need to still go into the video settings and force the settings again (we use unshaped). I feel as though I've had issues with tiffs/targas, so we use .pngs to peace of mind.

Also when previewing through the virtual output sometimes making sure the windows is 100%. As Willie said, the next stop on this QC is to confirm that it looks ok on studio output.
