  • 1.  Audio meters in Ultrix layout editor

    Hi there

I'm trying to create a layout with VU meters on PIPs, but when I assign this layout to a multiviewer, I don't get any modulation in the VU meter...

Is there something I'm forgetting to do in the Layout Editor to link a VU meter to a PIP? Can VUs be assigned to any PIP (A/B/C)?

    Thanks for your help !

    Stephane

    Hi Stephane,

Yes, audio meters can be assigned to any PIP in your layouts. Once you've added the meters to the layout, you will need to ensure that audio is being routed to them. All PIP video and audio meters are considered destinations in the Ultrix database, so you need to ensure you have them mapped in your Destinations table. Each PIP on each head should have an entry in the Destinations table. That entry will need to have ports assigned for video and audio levels.

The video ports use the syntax: <system_name>.slot<x>.head<n>-pip[<m>.sdi.ch1. For example ultrix.slot1.head2-pip5.sdi.ch1

The audio ports us the syntax: <system_name>.slot<x>.head<n>-pip[<m>.meter.ch<z>. For example ultrix.slot1.head2-pip5.meter.ch1

The database builder will normally fill these in for you. If you're adding in multiviewer heads after the initial build, the Fill I/O tool can automate the creation of the MV PIP destinations.

Once these have all been properly configured, you need to ensure your routing panel is switching all levels in the router. Usually, Level 1 is video and Levels 2-17 are audio. You'll need to make sure that all levels are assigned to your control panels.

    Thanks Alun for your reply.

The audio meters are correctly mapped in the destination database, and the audios are correctly routed with the video in the PIPs.

I'm actually only having this problem with certain heads (at least one of them)... I'll have to dig a little deeper to find out if it's recurring on a particular head of slots or if I'm having an issue with one head in particular....

The same layout works correctly on one head, but not on another! It's driving me crazy.

I had a similar issue, trying swapping a different source into that PiP.  In our case it turned out to be the way the audio was encoded and the PiP didn't like the audio, swapping to a different source proved that the PiP meters were working and the issue was upstream of the Ultrix.

No, no... the same source modulates in a multiviewer, but not in the one in question.

I'm gonna change 2 heads outputs to have meters in the good multiviwer...

    Best regards
