I am wondering if there is a way to auto scale text depending on how many characters are typed out over a lower third graphic.

For example, let's say that I type enough characters on the first line of text for a lower third graphic to fill 1200 pixels. Once the text goes over that mark, can XPression then create a second line that then auto adjusts the entire text to fit within the lower third background border? The lower third background is an external video file that plays out, so I am not sure if I can reference it with visual logic or not.

You can use the word wrap function (found on Tabs and Options tab), giving it the 1200 pixel width. Then use Visual Logic to detect when the text box height changes and adjust the Y position.
