  • 1.  Camera feeds cutting out intermittently with Carbonite and AW-UE150

    Posted 10-25-2024 13:38

When using the cut button on the Ross Carbonite switcher, the connected Panasonic AW-UE150 cameras cut out (go black) for a few seconds every few hours. This does not happen when our staff switches cameras on the program bus directly.

One thing to note, after the cutouts/blackouts, the Panasonic camera logs show "Genlock succeeded".

Does anyone have any idea about what I should check?

    Hi Mark,

I am unsure why using the cut button would differ from switching directly on the program bus. However, the Panasonic camera logs showing "Genlock succeeded" is consistent with the cameras going black. When a camera gets a reference signal, it may flicker and go black for a second or two.

    Where I would check:

    1. Are the UE150s getting a valid reference signal that it accepts?
    2.  Is the reference signal generator (and any downstream devices like DAs) producing a stable reference signal to the UE150s?

    Thanks, Aaron. A few questions:

    • What does DA stand for?
    • I am going to check our Evertz master clock. Does the Carbonite switcher require a timing? If yes, are there any guidelines on settings?

    Hi Mark,

DA: distribution amplifier. An analog DA would take the sync signal (Blackburst or Tri-level) from the Evertz master clock and send it to the UE150s, and the Carbonite.

The Carbonite can work without external reference. But if the UE150s are taking reference from the Evertz master clock, then the Carbonite should take reference from it too.

For settings, it depends on the video format that your Carbonite is running in. Below is the link to a table listing the Carbonite's video formats and required reference. This is specifically for the Carbonite Ultra, but generally applies to all Carbonite models.
