  • 1.  Carbonite Borders sharpness issue

    Posted 09-20-2022 11:09
I am using an Ultrix Carbonite and creating some pip layouts with borders and I want the border to be flat and sharp on all edges.  I seem to be unable to create a border with a nice sharp edge. They all have a little fuzziness to them.  The interior / exterior softness settings are at 0.  My work around right now is creating the border files in Adobe Illustrator and bringing them in on a media channel, but I would much rather have the flexibility of the borders being created by the Carbonite.  Any ideas?

I have sent this off to the dev team to look into it.

Hi, strange one.... did this ever get resolved and what was the issue?

I have a Carbonite Ultrix on version 9.1.10 and we are seeing this. I havent seen it before and i know we have made borders before that have been razor sharp! :)

Just not sure why now we are having this issue. Also none of the Border Type buttons seem to have any affect on the output and look of the border???

    we are in 1080i/50 mode.

Left PIP is the one that carbonite is making witht he settings shown. The PIP on the right is part of the media still graphic to show what we want.

Can you explain what you mean by no effect?  I just configured and set this up and the controls do what they are labeled.  Yes the edge has some softness even when softness is set to 0 while older Carbonite Black and Graphite units have straight edges.  Something in the Advanced Borders is not allowing 0 to be 0.

However if I move the inner softness or outer softness those controls work.. changing the Flat and Bevel settings work as does over hang.

Hi Les, after making the border thick to the point of comically thick, we could engage the 'bevel' effect and could see the results, so it was doing something, its just at thin settings, you cant see the results. it also needs to be on anything but black for color from our tests. if the color is black, then we couldnt see any changes when adding 'bevel'.

Tech support can see the issue I'm reporting, being 'fuzzy lines when trying to make razer sharp thin borders'.

For the Softness inability to completely go to 0 -- I already stated that we see the issue that was introduced with the advanced borders.  We are looking into it and as to why 0 is not 0.

My only question was regarding the controls of bevels and edges do work here so I just wanted to make sure that there was not yet another issue that was separate from the Soft edge even when set to 0

Can you confirm which switcher mode and video format you are working in?
