  • 1.  Carbonite Solo - Xpression LiveCG License Upgrade

    I have what I hope are a couple pretty straight forward questions:

    Carbonite Solo includes an Xpression LiveCG license, good for stills only since you are loading directly in the store.

    1. If I want to do animated graphics but don't want to have to go for a full Xpression Studio system, can I purchase a license to upgrade to Xpression Designer and have animated graphics output?
    2. Graphics will have to be played out SDI for the Carbonite Solo, so could I use an SDI PCIe card and will the animated graphics stream out with alpha channel?

    I am trying to get enough graphics capabilities but without upgrading to a full Xpression Studio or Prime with separate hardware system.

    Any serious limitations or any other recommendations?

    Hi,

    1 - No.  Designer is not able to output to hardware frame buffers.  For that you need to look at an XPression edition like Prime or even one of the Go Series where you can use a thunderbolt laptop and small AJA or BMD attached Thunderbolt I/O.

    2 - Yes - that is exactly what is needed and again either a GO edition using a Laptop and thunderbolt unit or a Prime/Studio edition with a PC that has a AJA/BMD/Matrox or even a Ross Graphite Card (though for Graphite you have to buy a Graphite system as we don't sell those cards separate).

    There is no version that is Designer(Live CG) with I/O and going to Hardware I/O.  The only thing inbetween is to go with the GO Editions.

    Thank you very much that makes sense. It seems the best option then would be Xpression Go or Prime as you said or perhaps Xpression Studio with just 1 channel so I could do some basic virtual sets.
