    Posted 20 days ago

    Hi,there.

        We have recently upgraded our
Ross Video Carbonite Black+ to the latest firmware version (v15.6). The upgrade was successful, and we observed that several previously encountered issues were resolved.

We are now planning to upgrade another vision mixer, Ross Video Carbonite Ultra, to the latest available firmware (v9.1.4). Prior to proceeding, we would like to clarify a few technical points to ensure a smooth and reliable upgrade.

    1. Our Carbonite Ultra is currently operating on firmware version v3.0. After upgrading to the latest version, will it remain fully compatible with the Ross Video Carbonite Control Panel (1 M/E)?

    2. We currently use two different Switcher Sets (presets) configured for two separate live talk-show productions. Will these Switcher Sets be retained and fully recallable after the firmware upgrade, and will they remain compatible with the new firmware version?

For additional context, while operating on v3.0, we have experienced intermittent issues where Media Store sources unexpectedly drop off-air.

We would appreciate your guidance and recommendations before proceeding with the upgrade.

Thank you in advance for your support.

The Current ultra release is version 9.2.1 and is available here in the downloads section:

    https://rossvideo.community/software-downloads/carbonite-ultra-software-downloads

1 - yes the current software has not stoped working with the 1 M/E control panels.
2 - They "Should" but we always recommend doing these upgrades with enough time before a production to be able to check all memories and custom controls to make adjustments as needed -- also to be able to review all of the new features an leverage those to improve or resolve workflow hurdles that you may of had.

3 -- Media Stores dropping off air -- we would need more information regarding this.  What was taking place at the time that these drop outs were happening?  Did you open a techsupport ticket?  Did you grab logs after once of these incidents and provide those to support to review?  We will need more information to help look into this.

The link above also has links to download the upgrade notes and release notes history where you can review the long list of fixes and features that have been implemented version by version since v3.

Thank you very much for your detailed response and for sharing the latest software information and documentation links.

Unfortunately, at the time the issue occurred, log files were not captured, and the incident was not formally escalated via a technical support ticket. As such, I am unable to provide detailed diagnostic data for retrospective analysis.

To clarify the observed behaviour: on firmware version v3.0, the Media Store sources (M1/M2) even in scenarios where no media files were actively loaded in the Media Stores the sources(media store crosspoint) cut occurred automatically without intentional operator action.

At this stage, I will proceed with the planned software upgrade, ensuring it is carried out well in advance of any live production. Following the update, I will thoroughly review memories, custom controls, and Media Store behaviour, and I will provide feedback on the results accordingly. Should the issue persist, I will ensure that logs are captured and a support case is raised with the relevant details.

Thank you again for your guidance and recommendations.
