  • 1.  Changing template styles in XPression MOS workflow

    Posted 06-16-2023 08:30

We're using a MOS workflow with xpression and use the project server.

If we have a project with a sports theme and a project with a news theme we can use the different projects comfortably by switching the show in the mos plugin.

If we copy a sports script into a news show, we have to go through and swap the templates for the name straps and other graphics to use the version from the news project.

Is there a way to avoid doing that what still maintaining the show styles as different projects?

Or would we have to combine them into one super project with all show styles embedded and use some show style variable to switch?

    Ideas please...

    Thanks in advance.

This is called the re-skinning feature of the XPression Project Server and MOS workflow. It uses the shows/categories and styles feature of the XPression Project Server and Remote Sequencer/Rundown Controller. It allows you to re-skin a MOS rundown to a different project file at the time you activate the rundown in the Remote Sequencer or XPression Rundown Controller. The big part of the trick is the two project files need to have an identical naming convention for the scenes and published objects. Depending on how you want to re-skin your templates you could end up with a different number of project files.

Unfortunately this is not a well documented workflow. Typically we train users on this workflow and how it is implemented directly during online or in person training sessions.

Simon if you reach out to me (gmillward@rossvideo.com) we can arrange to get you an overview session of this workflow with an XPression specialist.

    Simon,

Here's a PDF with some tips for setting up projects and the Project Server to use styles. If your current Project Server show doesn't have categories and styles set up, I would create a new Project Server Show to test with rather than adding categories and styles to the existing show. This way you won't effect existing MOS objects before you're ready to put the new workflow on air. Feel free to reach out with any questions.

    Thanks Garner and Thanks Jeff.

    I appreciate the responses.

We're also using overdrive and xpression is not manned.

Is it also possible to set the style using RossTalk?

    Thank you.

What is activating rundowns in XPression before air? Are you using the OverDrive XPression rundown activation feature? Or does the OverDrive operator open the XPression Rundown Controller software to select which rundown to send to XPression?

I should add that right now its only possible to select styles using XPression Rundown Controller or Remote Sequencer. We've thought about adding the ability for OverDrive to select the style in XPression as well, but that isn't currently on the roadmap.
