  • 1.  Disconnecting Cambot 520PT heads cripples Ross router panels

Proper head scratcher here. We have up until recently been running 3 Cambot 520PT heads via Smartshell. It's a single PC Smartshell installation, no separate server. We also have a router (3G 144) and an NK-IPS directly connected via T-Bus to two NK-, an NK-GPS and an NK-VRC. We also have several RCP-ME panels, connected to our local broadcast network, to which the NK-IPS is also connected.

The problem arose when we disconnected the Cambots from the network, the RCP-ME panels slow down in operation and the Macros we fire from them stop working. This happened before when we moved the Cambots and Smartshell onto a separate network in order to try to stop disconnection problems, we had to put them back on the network.

I have it at the point now where the system is fine if *only* the three Cambot heads are powered and on the network. Smartshell and the associated PC are also off.

Not having been involved with the installation here I can only speculate as to what might be going on. It *seems* that disconnecting the 3 robot heads (or indeed, only 1 of them) causes something on the network to panic and start flooding the network trying to find them.

There was a thumbnail server running, which switched a matrix destination, however we were told by Ross that this had been disabled a while back (again, while chasing the connection dropping problems we had).

If anyone has any pointers as to what part of what config needs changing, we would be very grateful, else we are stuck with a pile of robot heads keeping our network calm.

    Thanks,

    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew,

That is an odd one for sure.

I'm guessing there's more to this story, hidden in the RoboticsServer.config file and/or the RoutingServer.config file.

Routing server is used to communicate to the NK routers via NK-IPS NK-NET.

Robotics Server is used to communicate to the Cambots.

Those two are hosted in a Windows service "Robotics Services Host" . Have you tried playing around with the service start/ stop state to see if that changes the behavior you described?

This sounds like a case that will require more than a bit of back and forth by email. Can you open a ticket with techsupport at rossvideo dot com?

Thanks for getting back to me. I have tried commenting out the camera IP addresses in the Robotics Server config file, and the NK router IP address from the Routing Server config file. I have also unloaded the Dashboard Gateway and the Robotics Server on the Robotics Services Host admin page - hoping that anything updated would propagate through the system, but the problem still occurs when the cameras are removed from the network. It still happens when Smartshell is completely shut down, so there would appear to be something listening somewhere in the NK system, which has been unaffected by these changes. Not sure where to go next!

We have tried emailing directly to technical support, but answers are not really forthcoming that way at the moment so I thought I would try here to see if it would ring a bell for anyone.
