  • 1.  Input Grabber "jumpy" video (unconventional use case...)

    Hi all!

Trying to figure out what I could be missing here...

I have multiple XPression Prime systems (preconfigured HW+SW from Ross) operating in a 100% automated/operator free environment. Previous systems have been simpler (Carbonite Solo and no separate routers) while this one has a Ultra and a AJA Kumo router. Typically we've been genlocking using tri-level (clocked at 720p59.94) but due to some oddness with other devices in this system we're using NTSC black bilievel sync.

Because it's operator-less and and I can't leave a port unused, we've typically fed the MV output from the Solo into SDI In 1 on the XPression. By doing this I can remote in to the XPression machine, launch the input grabber and get an eye on status/assist with troubleshooting from anywhere -- pretty sure that's definitely not the way the input grabber was intended to work but it meets my needs wonderfully without requiring additional hardware.

In this system instead of coming directly off of the Ultra we're coming off a Kumo router output, and there's a pretty nasty glitch/flicker/stutter on the input grabber preview -- almost like the input is constantly losing and relocking to sync. I was convinced that it was a bad cable (particularly since the install tech had a >100% failure rate on terminating BNCs) but a different tech today tried a completely different cable with no results and when they connected a portable SDI test monitor they reported that the video was stable and glitch free.

Just as a test I tried changing the Corvid22 to lock to Input 1 or Freerun instead of the genlock input but that had no impact on the input grabber results.

Any idea what I'm fighting/missing here? (Alternatively: is there any way to leverage inputs 1/2 on the Corvid22 from outside of XPression while leaving XPression outputting Key+Fill?

    Thanks in advance!

Forgive me for not being the most up to date slash no knowledge at all of the limitations of prime machines vs regular studio.  Just tossing an idea out there.  Could you make a scene that has a background material on it, and that material is just the live input.  But that scene online in a virtual output and see what you need to see?

Prime doesn't support a live input shader.

If you're ever interested in what versions support what here is a useful matrix; Editions

What is the version and build number of XPression Prime you are using? Ex. 9.5 5500
What is the Corvid NTV2 Driver version you are running? Ex. 12.0.1

Have you tried using the Record Client instead of the Input Grabber for this? The Input Grabber code is a quite old and may be causing this issue. The Record Client button is right beside the Input Grabber button:

Also check and see if you have the Keep Input Active option in the XPression hardware setup and enable it:

    Hi Garner,

Thanks for the reply and apologies for my delay in replying -- I've been away from this project.

    XPression Prime v10.5 build 5532
Corvid22 driver version (as reported by device manager) 12.5.7.6
Do have "Keep Input Active" selected (have tried it both ways with no appreciable change in behavior)

I'm not having any luck finding the Record Client -- I've always access the Input Grabber via the Tools -> Input Grabber Drop Down menu, but I think I found the toolbar you pictured but I don't have a Record Client on mine:

There's a disabled button, Input Grabber, Material Manager, and Audio Monitor Volume Control-- is there something else I need to enable somewhere?
