I was a very early Vision user (the first one, actually) and have been on a TD2 for just under 2 years, at KQED (PBS in San Francisco). The manual is a bit dated, the switcher is actually more capable. For Custom Controls, I recommend using what I call the "watch me" mode ... put it in record and do what you want it to do. Then go back and see how the CC menu coded it. It gets a little trial and error until you mind-meld with the product engineer and understand what they were thinking when they designed it.
This group is a good place to ask questions. Often times I'll say "I wish the switcher could do X" and Les will write back saying "it already does. Here's how..."

Interesting, thanks for sharing this! I created a similar Media Wipe setup for two of our transitions. I'm still a bit new to this switcher, we had an old Vision forever and got the TD2 a while ago, but finally did the big switch and changed the switchers out last week... I'm still ironing out some of the wrinkles, so I'll have to mess around with CC'ing some Multiviewer functions. There's a lot that can be done with CC's and the Multiviewer, I'm excited!

Using the cut button to reset the clock is what we did at CNN back in the early days. The GVG 300 had a giant orange cut button just under preset that we used for everything. I don't think a finger ever touch PGM. This is easily done with your TD2 abd Ultra. It's what we have.
Currently, I use DSK Trans 2 and Trans 3 for different transitions that use the media player. It's a custom control that recalls the media file, puts ME P/P into Media Wipe mode, does the transition (which media player actually handles) and then puts the transition panel back into Dissolve. It also changes a multiview box to show that media channel.
Trans 1 is a custom control that makes our Xpression look like it's animating. We have Xpression Designer so this is my work around to try to be fancy.
If I could add a CC to the unused Key 5 and 6 buttons, I would!

You can map one of the 3 trans buttons in the transition area to be that custom control.

Subject: Is there a way to turn the Cut button into a Custom Control?
Hello,
As the subject says, I am interested in turning the Cut button into a Custom Control or at least assigning it an additional command. We used to utilize a time clock for our news broadcast that resets every time the cut button is pressed, it helped us time videos, when to put in supers, cgs, etc. We've managed to find a workaround at the moment, creating a Custom Control that resets a Multiviewer Time Clock, Cuts, and then starts the MV Time Clock anew. However, that's in the CC row and it will be a bit of a workflow change to start pressing the CC instead of the Cut button. So, we're looking to see if we can alter the Cut button to allow us to do this function.
Any help or advice is welcome,
Nathan
