  • 1.  Live Video Input From Camera

    Posted 05-20-2024 13:03

I have a live camera input that I am putting into one scene that has 3 separate video source materials applied to 3 quads.

I works, BUT there is a delay of the video on all 3 quads when I playout.

My Xpression is then running at a high level of Non-Realtime Performance.

Any thoughts on how to make this run smoothly?

What resolution are the 3 video clips?

Hi Simon. It is a live camera input in the studio. I then put that camera on 3 separate video source materials. It is built in one scene.

There will always be a delay with a live input because XPression needs to process it.

But also XPression is having to process 3 x HD live inputs, depending on the hardware that's quite a bit.

HI Simon. Thanks for the message. We are on a Xpression Studio Flex dated 2021 v 11.5.

When we do play this out it tells us that we are at or over 100% of real time performance. Is there a way to optimize the performance with a real time source (camera input)?

I am thinking that this type of scene might be done in sports?

Usually in sports graphics is just overlay, XPression isn't processing 3 video inputs, this is usually handled by the switcher and then you DVE it and the graphics are placed on top.

What is your workflow? Even if you drop the performance to below 100% you are still going to have quite a delay from XPression.

Thanks for the message. I had a new idea before I just received your message. So I built 3 scenes, one for each of the 3 boxes that has the video sourche material which is still the 1 camera input. It is better than just the 1 scene, but as you mentioned there is a slight delay. My real time performance meter is at around 85% and not around 100%+. So I have helped it a bit. Just the slight lip flap. Thoughts!!!

You'll need to send the audio through a delay and line them up after.

There will always be delay of the video through XPression when using a live input shader. About 7 frames.

If you process the audio through XPression it would have the same delay. (as in, embed audio into the XPression and then use the emedded audio out of XPression). The embedded audio will have the same delay as the video.

If you want to get video delay in XPression, you will need to purchase a Matrox XMIO3 or XMIO5 card from Ross Video. That would have 3 frames of delay.

Are you using a Matrox card?

If so, make sure this is enabled in hardware setup for the input:
