  • 1.  Looping a Texture - Flare that moves across a lower third bar

    Posted 10-05-2023 18:19

I have a scene that is a lower third that has a couple of video materials. I know need to animate a flare along the bar which is just a TGA.

I need it to go from left to right dissolve off and then loop back to the left and animate across the bar again over and over.

I don't see where I can just make my group flare (because there is a top and bottom TGA flare) as an event in a scene director.

I am thinking it is easy, I am just not able to figure it out.

Sounds like a job for continuous animation.

Skip ahead to 19 minutes for an example of a flare/glow animating over a lower third.

    Hi Paul

Thank you for your note. I watched the continuous animation video and I thought it could be that before I posted on the Ross site. Just not easy, yet, to get the flare to travel from left to right on the lower third bar then dissolve out. Then dissolve back up at the start point and travel back down the bar again. Need this to keep looping.

    Any tips on this?

Working with two different continuous animations at the same time can be frustrating. I suppose another way is to have a dedicated scene director that only controls the fade up, movement left to right, and then the fade out. Add to that a jump to a specific frame and it might do what you want. I'm not sitting at my Xpression right now to give it a try, but this might take care of what you need. If you want to go that way, I can fire up my Xpression and give it a try. Good Luck.

Position - Sawtooth - Can be symmetric or asymmetric if you understand the math

    Transparency - Sine - Asymmetric

You can add an Alpha track to you continuous animation and use that to fade the flare in and out as it travels across the scene. Lots of ways to do this, but easiest is to set your mode to "Asymmetric" and the Amp Offset to -100 so the flare will continuously animate between 0 and 100 alpha.

    Hi Michele,

hope I understood it correct - but if it is just some simple flares why do you not put the animation into a extra scene director put here a fade out at the end etc.. Then loop the scene director with a event. From your default scene director start on the track with a Add Clip/ Scene Director Trigger that SD. uick an dirty. More elegant is the contimous animation but there you have to combine it with a sig jaw ... takes a bit.

Hope that is what you needed.

    Greetings Nicole
