  • 1.  Output Internal Reference from a Carbonite Solo?

I was wondering if it is possible to use one of the outputs of the Carbonite solo to send reference to other devices? As there are a limited number of frame syncs compared to the number of inputs, it seems logical that there would be a way to sync all inputs with a switcher called a Solo. If not, is it possible to add this functionality with a firmware update?

    Hi Chris,

Unless the device will Accept SDI Input as a means to Genlock (example is XPression that can use the SDI input or the REF input to use as it's sync source) then no as there are no Analog outputs that can be used to generate Reference.  This also can not be added via firmware update.. again requires hardware that is not available on the unit.

There is an option to change the Media Stores into Framesyncs, they can not perform Format conversion but they can sync a source that is not genlocked..

Third option is a device like this GEN10 from AJA .. this is a "throwdown" sync generator which has 6 outputs that can be fed into devices to provide Genlock .. just make sure to also feed one link to the Carbonite.
