GVG is a very simple protocol and was implemented on our older CrossOver Series and just kept along the way..
If you want to develop your own user control and interface then I would recommend the OGP protocol so that you can talk to the switcher in the same way that DashBoard does .. also means you don't need to "poll" the buses as they will update.
Send me direct message with your email address and I will link you to the person that runs the Opengear and Dashboard connect partner program to get you signed up and the protocol documents.

Hi Les,
First - I really appreciate all the help, I was able to install the dashboard and I can see it's running version 13.0.4.17417,
I enabled the Editor as you suggested and it worked perfectly,
My goal is to control the carbonite switcher with the following commands:
Set program/preset crosspoints - works great!
Set aux crosspoints - works great!
Set key crosspoints - works great!
the last one I need is turning on/off ME2KEY4, I've been reading the GVG100 supported switcher commands pdf,
I understand that the GVG100 can only control key1+key2, I've configured the mode to "Ross Mode" and was hoping to find the appropriate command,
I found the "Key Active" command under the "Supported lamps" but I'm not sure how to call it, (what's the byteCount? I think I'm missing something)
Could you perhaps guide me towards what's the right command to turn a key on/off? (I'm not looking for a toggle command, I need to force it on or off according to my needs)

Unlike a TD Panel there is no display port for a monitor ... DashBoard was always run on a separate PC.
https://www.rossvideo.com/support/software-downloads/dashboard/
That is where you will find DashBoard downloads -- PC / MAC and Linux versions..
https://help.rossvideo.com/carbonite-02/Topics/Setup/Personality/Personality-General.html
that is how to get to it in DashBoard..
On the physical panel .. Next to the screen press the "menu" button and then on the selection button to the Left press the PERS for personality menu..
Then you will have the knob on the right of the screen for the Editor ON OFF port..

Hi Les,
There might have been a monitor a while back, but it's an old switcher that had moved between many control rooms, its possible it has disappeared at one of the packing/unpacking, none of the current staff could say if there was a screen in the past,
Is that a software I could download and install on any pc? we have a few pc's on that network,
Regarding the editor, could you elaborate on where is that "personality" menu? I would like to enable it and i'm not really sure how to approach that
Thank you so much for all the help!

That looks like a Carbonite 2ME panel but you say version 1.3 ? which would make me think it was a Carbonite Solo frame...
are you sure there is no computer with dashboard on the same network that you can connect to the frame IP to get into the menus?
As for the Editor .. you need to Add the serial or network device and under personality there is an ON/OFF for allowing commands.

That sounds about right, (image attached, don't know if it'll mean much)
Alternatively, I've started exploring the gvg100 protocol, I get "editor functionality is not enabled" on every command I send,
Is there a way to enable it?

can you take a picture of the unit? but yes with that kind of version number it is possible that it is before the introduction of the ON / OFF events being added to the RossTalk protocol

that is a good question,
I think it's kind of old (very old) machine, it has no external mounted screen (perhaps it was removed..)
it has a 2 line small screen that says on the top right v1.306, does that make any sense?

Can you list the engine type and software version it is running -- it's on the DashBoard Status menu page.

Hi Les,
On another issue - I would like to use RossTalk to turn on a key on our carbonite switcher,
I've followed https://help.rossvideo.com/carbonite-device/Topics/Protocol/RossTalk/CNT/RT-CNT-Comm.html
"KEYCUT 2:4" toggles the key4 state on me2, works perfectly!
however "KEYCUTON 2:4", "KEYCUT 2:4:ON", "KEYCUTON ME:2:4" - none of those work,
the idea is to force the key to turn on, not to toggle, is that possible with the ross carbonite? am I doing something wrong?
Thank you!

You can use the extended GVG100 over IP to query, you can also implement a TSL v3.1 or v5 (ultra version 7.1 or higher only) which would allow you to receive bus status that will be pushed to you instead.
The other method is to become a DashBoard Connect Partner and implement OGP protocol so you can use the native protocol we use with DashBoard and the Carbonite switchers.

Hi James, thanks for the reply!
so what would be the right way to query the switcher for current crosspoint selection?

Hi Tomer,
RossTalk is just for sending commands. There's no feedback or queries.
James.

Hi all,
I'm trying to connect and send RossTalk commands to our carbonite switcher,
Sending the commands seems to be working great! however - I'm not getting any feedback, for example after triggering auto trans on an ME, I'm not getting any notifications that the A and B bus have changed crosspoints,
Also - I would like to be able to query the switcher upon starting my app to learn which crosspoint is selected on each bus -
is that something that might be possible? I couldn't find in the protocol documentation about feedback - any help would be appreciated!
Thanks
