    Hello,

I'm interested in use the Stream Deck to recall diferents shots from Cambot. We have Smart Shell but I think that with Smart Shell it doesn't possible and I will try to use Dashboard to do it. How can I do it? I have the Rosstalk plug in intalled in Stream Deck and I can use the Bitfocus Companion if it's work. Could you help me?

    Regards,

    Enric

    Hello Enric,

My apologies for the delay.  Quite a few people have been absent due to schools being closed for a week because of holiday March Break.

I honestly have never tried what you are attempting to do, but it does seem like it would be possible.  I have a StreamDeck available that I can try.  Let me perform a few different tests and see if I can get it to work.

You are correct in having the RossTalk application installed.  I am not familiar with Bitfocus Companion but I will educated myself on this.  Please give me until the end of this week (or sooner) to provide you with a proper answer.

    Thank you,

    Tim

    Hi Enric,

I'm posting here to keep things public so that others may benefit.  I have been able to test and was successful in using the StreamDeck to fire off presets through Dashboard.  It takes quite a bit of work to set up and requires a custom DashBoard panel to make it work.

Step 1 would be to install Dashboard.

Step 2 add your robots to Dashboard and ensure you have control of them there through the Remote Control.  Let's just add 1 for now to keep things uncomplicated.

After installing Dashboard select the + symbol and then scroll through the list until you see Robots > Ross PT Head

Select NEXT.  Enter the IP of the robot.  This part is a bit tricky.  If you are running Cambot, then you would enter the IP of the Robotic Server.  If you are running Furio, then the IP is the address assigned to the robot.  What type of robot are you using?

    Example using a Furio:

Select FINISH.  You should see your robot appear in the Basic Tree View on the left under Ross robotics.  Expand the tree until you see Remote Control.  If done correctly you should see it come up green.

Once you get to this point let me know and we will continue from here.  If you cannot get the robot to go green I may have to remote into your system and take a look at your config files.  The IP for the robot can be tricky sometimes.

    Hi Enric,

This is perfect.  Well done!  Yes, with Dashboard it's a little bit different than SmartShell.  In Dashboard you select what you want to do first, and then select the preset.  It looks like you have 3 category tabs for presets.  The Default tab has 5 presets in it.

Now you need to create a custom Dashboard Panel.  To save you some time, I have created one for you, but you will still need to edit it so it sees your robots.  I created it with 5 preset buttons, just like in the photo you uploaded.  Save this file in your C:/Dashboard folder.  I usually create a new folder called myPanels and save any thing I create in there.

In DashBoard, select the File Navigator tab.  Click on the + and then locate the .grid you just downloaded entitled EnricTest.grid.  If you created a new folder you will need to pick the entire folder.

You should see the EnricTest.grid now.  Double click it and you will see the example template I made for you.  I copied your numbering and durations.  Now we need to point these presets and your CAM1.
Click the PanelBuilder Edit Mode tab at the top of Dashboard.
Your EnricTest.grid is now in edit mode (you'll see faint gridlines appear)
Double click anywhere in the grid and it will bring up a new window.  This is where we will add your devices (robots).  Make sure you have the upper most area highlighted/selected.
    Click Device
Enter a Name and ID.  I used CAM1 for both.
Select the checkbox for openGear or Xpression DataLinq and then Click Configure
Make sure to click on the Select device bullet
Find your CAM1 in the list and then Select OK
    Select Apply and Close
Select PanelBuilder Edit Mode.  This will take you out of PanelBuilder mode (gridlines disappear)
You now have a custom panel.  The 5 buttons on this panel are all pointed at your CAM1.   Be careful!  If you click on "1" you should see preset 1 start to RUN so your robot will begin to move!
Give this a try and let me know how you do.  We may need to change the IDs on the presets to match your external IDs in SmartShell.  If this works, then the next step is to get the SteamDeck going!  Good luck!
    Find your CAM1 in

    Hi Enric,

I would have been very surprised if it worked first time.  I guessed at most of the values being used.  I need you to check two things please.

    1.  Do you have control of the robot in Dashboard?  Try moving the crosshairs left/right or up/down and see if the robot moves.

    2. Could you please select the EDIT button and then Select your first preset for me and send me a screenshot of the window that appears.

    Thank you!

    Hi Enric,

Sorry for the delay.  It took me a while to figure this out.  I believe the ID you chose (10) is the problem.  I set the buttons up to look for ID 99.  Also, I discovered the first button was not configured correctly.  Possibly it did not save.  Either way, I've made changes to the .grid.  Please try this new one.

Hi Enric, yes of course.  I thought Holly had been helping you.  I do not have access to a StreamDeck XL, but it should work the same as a smaller version of StreamDeck.

Did you get the xml I sent you?  Are you able to use the custom panel we created?  This needs to work before we can go further.

Awesome!  I see I spelled ROSS as POSS on the interface.  We can fix that and set up the StreamDeck now.

To fix the name, go into PanelBuilder Edit Mode.  Select the tab at the top circled in red.

Then in your EnricTest2.grid tab double click anywhere to bring us into the coding area.  Highlight your label (circled in red below) and then correct the name (circled in green below).  Click Apply and Close at the bottom of the screen.

Now let's get the StreamDeck working.  Okay, so go back into PanelBuilder Edit Mode.  Highlight your robot this time (circled in green).  Then pick a number to enter in the Internal RossTalk GPI Listener.  For this example I used 5555.  You can use this number too.

    Posted 04-21-2023 13:54

    Click Apply.
Okay, now we will set the trigger ID for your first button.  Select your first button (circled in green) and in the Trigger ID: area enter 0 (circled in green).

Click Apply.  Repeat this step for all of your buttons.  So for your second button use Trigger ID: 1, third, use Trigger ID: 2 and so on.
    Click Apply and Close
Click PanelBuilder Edit Mode button to take you out of edit mode.

    Now in StreamDeck...
Click and Drag RossTalk to an empty button
    Select the new button
In the Title enter anything you want.
    For the command select GPI
GPI 0 = Trigger ID 0 (in Dashboard)
Hostname should be localhost (127.0.0.1) or you can use the IP of the PC you are controlling things on.  Localhost should be fine.
Port should be 5555.  This is the same as the port used in Dashboad for the RossTalk GPI Listener.

Now leave Dashboard open.  Press the button you just programmed on the StreamDeck.
The robot will start executing the preset.

For the port 5555, I should clarify.  This needs to be a port in your setup that is currently not in use.  I don't believe 5555 is the default port for any GPI equipment but I'm not entirely familiar with your setup.  The number just needs to match in Dashboard and on the StreamDeck.

For the trigger IDs and GPI command, it's the same thing.  You do not have to use 0,1,2,3.  You can use anything you wish as long as both sides match in Dashboard and in StreamDeck.

    Hi Enric,
I have not used Companion software before.  You will have to try it out.  From your screenshot, it looks fine.  You should be able to put the IP of your PC into the Switcher Frame/Xpression IP section and in the Switcher Frame/Xpression Port you would use the port number you would use 5555 (or whatever you chose).  It is still GPI, so I don't see why it would not work.

I have the grid but now I'm trying to use with Companion. I don't know how can I merge it in Dashboard. From Dashboard works me the buttons but with companion doesn't.

    Hi Enric,

I see the .xml you attached, but not the .grid files.

If you experiment with your .grid(s) I am sure you will be able to figure it out.  Don't be afraid to try things.  Just make sure to save as you go.  For Companion I'm afraid you are on your own as I am not familiar with this application at all.  I have spoken to Olivier and he mentioned he got it working for you.  Was this just for 1 camera?

Honestly, Companion is outside of the scope of our support.  For the StreamDeck, your .grid is getting into the realm of a Custom Panel which is something that normally involves our Rocket Surgery design team and would require a service quote.
