Is there currently any way to implement SVG animations in Xpression? I think this would be fantastic for creating a lot of our news graphics and help keep the project file size down, as it's mainly vector math and shapes and such.

I'm revising our current lower third in our graphics package to better work with other elements and update the look of our branding. Now, it's been a while since I'v done a complete overhaul on something like this, and I've trying to use methods that will be not as heavy on our entire system. I know I can create cropped video elements and masks and whatnot using Adobe After Effects (I'm using Adobe Illustrator to design the lower third and I'm doing a proof animation in After Effects before I get into the insanity of options and tools in Xpression).

Is there any documentation or "best practices" I need to consider when creating a new scene from scratch?

You could turn the SVG elements into .obj files, but the textures/colors don't carry over. Illustrator can export to .obj

You'll have to make materials for the objects.

Additional note: I believe Illustrator always makes the center point/origin in the middle of your object regardless of how you position it on the page. To control the center point, you should add a bounding box object and discard the bounding box after import into Xpression. This should preserve your positions. Also, the export units tend to be ridiculously small, or at least for me it has been. I have to scale objects 10 or more times.
