  • 1.  Take vs. Take (2) vs. Take (3) Commands

    Hello,

I've watched a bunch of your videos and read through the manuals, and I'm sure you've answered it somewhere before, but I have a question regarding the different RossTalk commands that you can send from Carbonite/TouchDrive to XPression machines.

When building a simple transition animation (and not using the Media Store wipes) but instead an XPression Spotbox machine, what's the difference between the various take commands you can write into the Custom Controls. I've seen just a normal Take, a Take (2), and a Take (3). I know one or two of them allow the switcher to trigger the effect without moving the sequencer. It gets a little confusing when it's saying do Take (3) for ID 2 on Layer X or whatever. So just looking to clarify all that. Is the difference kind of like Take (version 1), Take (version 2), etc. I'm comfortable building effects through the Media Store media wipes but just have had a little hiccup in figuring out how to do it this way.

    Thank you for your time.

READ -- this will send the TAKE command to the current Item that is in Focus on the XPression Sequencer (The Blue Selection) but will not Advance the Bar.

Take Next or NEXT as usually referred to will Take the item in Focus and Move the Bar to the next line if there are no Pauses in the Scene Director.

Take (1) is a Take Command with just the TAKE ID...  That will TAKE without moving the Bar the Take ID to the Channel and Layer as set in the Sequencer

Take (2) is a Take Command with the Take ID and the Channel specified ... so it ill force the take item to that channel but will still use the layer that is in the sequencer
Take(3) is a Take Command that let's you specify The TAKE ID : The Channel : The Layer (and it does not move the Focus Bar). And will change the Channel and Layer (or force them so to speak) to the channel and layer that you put in the custom control.

Awesome, thanks for the response! That makes a lot more sense now.
