What I like about the file system is I can copy an individual element between file sets. I make a good Custom Control for one show, it's easy to "export" it to another because it's just a file. The only thing that would make it easier is an internal copy and paste of some sort. This would also help moving graphics around. Still, with FileZilla, you drag to the desktop and the drag it back in to the folder of the other show. I have one file that I use for all my experimentation. This way if I screw something up, it's no big deal. When I want to use that new effect/custom control/Rstate somewhere else, it's copied. I wish personality was a bit more broken up into different files!

I will copy down the questions and answer them inline
Jeremy -- Les, specifically what is the Rstate file? It seems quite important to a sucessful show load?
Rstate is the Reset State it is effectively a Memory that the user can setup per show file to have the State that the Switcher "Reset" / ME "Reset" or a Reboot will come up with and "recall". Think of it like Memory00000 that you setup the switcher and have everything the way you want for your Show Default. normally we would do that by storing Memory0 or Memory99 etc. But then a reset/reboot or an "ALL-ALL" in Ross terminology to clear out an ME or the whole switcher had no way for the operator to define that default. Thus in Carbonite (so like 2011) we introduced RState. But Like any other memory, setting, configuration, personality. The user/operator needs to "create/store/set" that and save it with the show. Otherwise it will have the Default RState which is what this user is experiencing. They have moved from an Older Series. Rebuilt their production but missed configuring this step.
Jeremy -- Why is it separate from the 'saved set' file?
It is Not separate -- it just was not setup/stored by this user. It is located in the same folder of the show file as all the other memories:

Jeremy -- Its seems odd that the switcher would save data in various locations and not all in one file no?
It does not save it in a different location. It is part of the same location inside of the Show file structure.
Jeremy -- Is there a whitepaper or somekind of guide that explains the logic and priciples behind how Carbonites and perhaps other Ross Switchers save show data???
This is all covered in the Manual regarding the memory system / RState and also how to Save / Load / Export / Import Show files. Here are links to the sections, The Web Manuals are fully searchable and are even available directly from the switcher frame via DashBoard Carbonite UI in the Carbonite Help Menu:

When i use an MA console i save a file and there is one file that contains everything. I know my save is sucuessful and I know I can restore it perfectly everytime.
I can even take it to another console, of a different size! and it will load just fine and work and not say that something is missing or i need to load another file :)

Hi Nick,
you would have had an RState saved with your previous switchers and the show files.
sounds like you have not added that to the new switcher sets.

Hi Everyone,
We've upgraded to an ultrix carbonite from our 2012 carbonite. I'm saving sets and when I reload them, I'm noticing the keyers are showing up as black. Once I load a memory, everything is fine. My old carbonite would load everything (including keyers) when I choose the set I want. I'm chalking this up as operator error, what am I missing?
Thanks for the help!
