  • 1.  Ultrix Carbonite: Separating Red and Green Tally

I was recently engineering a show where we had both IMAG and Program cut needing tally. The IMAG feed was fed to a Spyder, where the op would switch between content and the IMAG cut. The camera operators were complaining that it was confusing to have Red tally when they weren't on program, but were punched up on the IMAG M/E, and covered on the screens with content. I was using an Ultrix Carbonite and Panasonic cameras for this show and sending tally via TSL 5 to CCUs and Ultriscape pips.

If I had available resources (didn't have enough virtual inputs to the switcher or outputs of the router to feed to the physical inputs of the switcher) I probably could have brought another copy of the cameras going to IMAG into the switcher, used those secondary inputs for ME1, and used GPO Tally to an external tally system (Tally Ho!) to trigger red for P/P and green for ME1. That just seems like overkill.

Is there a way to separate red and green tally so I can give the P/P bus red tally, and the ME1 bus green tally, preferably via TSL 5? If not possible now, is this something that we could potentially see down the road in an update?

A few years ago Ross video added Image Video to the Family.  Specifically to add some of the best Tally interfacing and logic in the industry.

We have also now transported some of that feature set from the TSI-4000 to the Ultricore Tally product.
This is where you would be able to combine multiple tally rules and conditions to then create your own custom tally logic!

I think that is what you will need to integrate a custom solution.
