    I'm trying to create facebook style comment box that populates with questions. How do I get the comment box and the text to expand from center?

    You need to set your text to centered. 

    And you need to make sure your pivot point of your object is in the center. 

    be sure the quad is a child of the text.

    then use auto scale.

    Using the vlogic below, I can get the slab to expand with the text the way I want, but the text flows over the slab the longer it gets. I also need to anchor the "Name" textbox to the top of the slab so that it repositions as the slab size increases and decreases. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
     
    I used the vlogic you provided however my text box is no longer visible

    Your pivot points for the textbox and baseobject need to be aligned.
