It sounds like quicktime isn't installed. If it is installed, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime?

Does it show an error? What happens when you try to use an MOV? Where in the steps does it not work?
If this is an emergency I would suggest using Adobe Media Encoder to convert from MOV to XPVC AVI.
