  • 1.  VP Multiview signal clipping - Carbonite Ultra

    Posted 02-17-2025 20:45

Anyone else have this problem where any over-exposed signals clip to black in the VP multiview (this doesn't appear on the I/O Multiview). It doesn't appear on the preview or PGM bus, but its a real distraction. It goes away if you turn on a ProcAmp or CC on the input for some reason.

Here's the multiview with a white title slide coming from a laptop:

Notice the black on the white icon in the source window, but it's not present in the preview window. Here's an example with a camera:

    Hi Antonio,

Yes there is an issue with Super White Clipping in the 1/5 sized Boxes.  If you use another size of box it won't happen.

Another option is to turn on an Input Proc Amp on sources like this.  you don't have to change a value just add it to a source and turn it on.  Proc Amp will then keep the video from going into clipping.

Thanks for that, Les. Is this something that's going to be fixed? It's a very annoying bug.

Yes it will get resolved.  Just don't have a timescale as to exactly when.

HI Les, we reported this via Tom Wilson actually about 3 years ago.

How are we going with getting this fixed. Its pretty bad.

Hi All, as Les says this will get resolved and hopefully very soon now. The problem only occurs with 1/5 pip sizes where there is an error in the scaling algorithm when the image peak white level is at max. There is a simple resolution today in that if you turn on Proc Amps for any input that shows up in the MV with this error it will be clamped to the correct level and the error will disappear.

You do not need to adjust the Proc Amp values and can leave them at default, just turning them on is sufficient to limit the input range and maintain signal legality.

noticed this problem too on our recently updated Ultrix Carbonite.

In addition we have this bottom line but just when using the 2-5-5 MV
