I'm running into a strange instance where I'm designing on version 10.5, but running 6.5 on our production machines (at least for three more weeks until they're upgraded). This is causing me to have issues with the XPression codec not being recognized by the older software, as 10.5 comes with the new and improved version 2 codec. Is there any way I could bring the newer videos back to the older version from the newest? When I open them in the older XPression Video Coder they come in as n/a:

XPression Codec 2 10.5 comes in as n/a
EDIT: When the version 2 files are brought into XPression 6.5, they come up with an error of no compatible video codec.

    Hi Dan,
    You can either:

Install the XPVC1 codec onto your system running 10.5, and re-encode the videos to XPVC1 (watch out as they might look like they've been compressed twice).
    OR
You can install the XPVC2 codec on your systems running 6.5 and use the XPVC2 files in 6.5.

A system with the XPVC2 codec installed can playback both XPVC1 and XPVC2 files.

Basically XPression will use whatever the last codec version was installed on the system. This isn't officially supported and we don't recommend implementing workflows like this if you don't have to, but it should help you move on while you are transitioning between versions.

Thank you, Garner! Going with installing the old on the designer machine for now. We're planning to upgrade everything else in a couple weeks, so this will get us by until then.

    Hello there,

My apologies for posing in a old thread but I'm also having a similar issue. Our workstations use version 10.5 but the studio is running 9.5. So i need to render and deliver using 6.5 XPVC1 codec. Could you please update?  - the link as it is now unavailable. Thank you.

    Hi Hecmar,

    Here is XPVC1 installer for v9.5: https://transfer.rossvideo.com/f/24138f9e6c68e86f

You would install that on the workstation running v10.5 to force it to output XPVC1 codec videos. Those will be compatible with the system running v9.5.
