Probably one of two things (or both).
Do you have a monitor or display emulator connected to the Graphics card on the XPression hardware? There must be at least one active EDID on the graphics card for it to function correctly for XPression.
Do you have the graphics card selected in XPression? (you need the above first before you can set this correctly).
XPression > Edit > Preferences > Hardware Renderer > Adapter > Select the NVIDIA GPU
Judging by your screen shot, you're using VNC, so I bet you have no display connected to the XPression hardware. If you want to run it headless, get an emulator like this:

Subject: XPression Preview Window
Hi,
I am having an issue seeing what I am working on in xpression. We used to be able to see the specific graphic/scene in a window in xpression. Now, the windo is blank, therefore, we cannot see real to changes we are making to a particular scene/graphic. Picture below shows our xpression layout.
