Connecting NK-GPI through NK-IP with an Ultrix 5RU

Hello,
I’m trying to connect a NK-GPI box through a t-bus link with a NK-IP. Which is connected with an Ultrix.
The Ultrix is running on ip 192.168.100.101 and the NK-IP on 192.168.100.194.

At the Ultrix i made a tcp connection on port 5000 with the NK-IP with the NK protocol. Only i’m not sure what Device ID i need to put there? The connection table shows its connected. Also when i look at the NK-IP i see a connection with the Ultrix.

The NK-GPI is connected with tbus1 on the NK-IP, and i see when i make a GPI connection that the tbus1 is blinking.

But what is the next step? How can i be sure that the NK-GPI is connecting to the Ultrix? I’m trying to change the input from a monitor on destination 86, which i filled in at the NK-GPI on all 16 GP Inputs. When making a connection i see the tbus blinking but nothing is happening. I think i’m missing one step, but which one?

Kind regards,
Hylke

Hi Hylke

You are on the right path. You have done most of the steps below.

To talk to the NK-GPI you will need to connect the NK-GPI to an NK-IPS (not an NK-NET as the NK-NET does not provide power) to allow the Ultrix to communicate with the NK-GPI. The layout would look like this:

[NK-GPI] ← TBUS → [NK-IPS] ← IP → [Ultrix]

Then, under the Connections page of the Ultrix, under servers, add a Ross NK protocol server and point it at the IP address of the IPS on port 5000. After that, any commands sent from the NK-GPI will be sent to the Ultrix.

I think this is the part you are missing.

To configure the NK-GPI you just need to tell the GPI what commands to send when a GPI is triggered. You can set a single crosspoint or a macro (several crosspoints) and you can define which level you wish to switch on.

The User guide may help for connection (page 31) and configuration (page 55)
