  • 1.  OverDrive question - Camera Hold Position

    Posted 05-04-2015 22:53

I've set up my OverDrive system/switcher, but I never learned how to place a "Hold" on a Camera shot/position. When we have guests on the interview set, the camera keep swinging back to the anchor desk to "ready the next shot", rather than staying on guest.

How do I set a "hold position" within OverDrive?

NOTE: I'm using Telemetrics RCCP-1 controller for the cameras which has issues working with my Ross Video Tritium switcher.

    Hey John,

What I tend to do is code the same camera shots in the commercial break after the interview. That way, since cameras are set to "look ahead", they'll look to the commercial break and see the same shots. This prevents them from moving ahead.

Hi Mike, thanks for the response.

Your solution has been my work around.

In my iNews rundown, I've been duplicating my camera shots in the "Toss Back" line. But my directors tend to get lost in the multiple variations of "Camera 2" in the OverDrive Rundown.

If there was a "Camera Position Hold" trigger in the OverDriveRundown Client, hopefully, it would be easy for my Directors to switch on & then release.

There isn't a true camera hold trigger in Rundown Control, but you can disable remote/robotic controls from the "Tools>Playout Configuration" menu. This will allow you to turn off camera control from OD to the heads. It may be worth a try going this route, but please be sure to test this out prior to going on air.

Another suggestion that you may want to try is creating "camera hold" templates that can be used in the Toss Back line. It's just a camera shot template that uses a shot that not's saved in the Telemetrics (0, for example), and a specific icon that says "HOLD" on it. I've used this method at a few stations during my training sessions, and it helps to clear up any confusion that operators may have.
